Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Great with the kids and friendly comfortable stay Stayed here on a stop through at the last minute, on arrival the kids had been in the car for hours and the staff were very friendly and check in was smooth. The room was very clean and comfortable, breakfast was good with a lot of options, bit of bacon wouldn't have gone a miss though! Overall excellent stay! April 25, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by BACK TO THE EIGHTIES! We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Poole for one Saturday night in April 2013. We were greeted by a lovely receptionist and check in was trouble free. She explained everything and told us where our room was. I have stayed in the Holiday Inn Express in Stoke so I thought I was prepared for a nice, slightly basic but very clean and comfortable stay. When entering the room however, we felt like we had been transported back to 1985. The decor was straight from the eighties, yellow and blue, horrific curtains. The wall next to the window was dirty, lots of grubby fingermarks and the whole room was just very tired and dated. The radiator did not work and with one very flimsy duvet I was very disappointed. I did not sleep well at all although my partner slept ok. The breakfast was also a bit of a let down. If you are a veggie and like a cooked breakfast, avoid this hotel. My partner settled for scrambled egg on toast and I had a pot of yogurt and some muesli. I would not stay here again. Unfortunately the very nice staff are let down by a shabby hotel. April 22, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by AS GOOD AS EVER. Have stayed at this hotel many times and have never had a problem. Check in as a Priority Club member took just a few moments. The room and floor I was on had recently been refurbished and looked excellent. Parking was free and onsite. No problems at all encountered. Wish the reward nights weren't so many points at this hotel. (Paid rather than use up points). Overall excellent. April 16, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice bright room with good decor 2 good nights in attractive hotel.Good free parking,welcoming reception,and substantial breakfast.A big plus is being within walking distance of bus and train stations,and a very good Arts centre .The latter hosts Opera,concerts and films.The hotel is also close to shops and cafes. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Room Defect On arrival at the hotel at about 1430hrs and we were allocated an upgraded room on the ground floor, 006 and were greeted by both beds being pulled away from the wall and in the middle of the room, easy enough to resolve we just pushed them back. Room was good but very cold. After an hour it became apparent that the heating system was not working. I contacted reception and was rung back stating that the service manager had done something outside of our room and to give it ten minutes. No change after the time suggested so again we contacted reception and within five minutes the service manager, Steve was at our door carrying a small fan heater to warm up the room. I informed him that I was not happy with his idea and that we wanted a fully operational room, the reply was 'Not sure if I have one as we are busy, i will have to check, you may have to wait' We then received a call from reception stating that they had a room on the first floor that was available, but that we would have to wait as it was being cleaned. We received a call after about ten minutes and went to our new room 106 which was perfect with two working radiators and as this was one of the coldest weekends on record we certainly needed the heat. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by The heating was noisy We had a lovely stay in Poole, the hotel was clean and very good, the staff were excellent and friendly, a bit more choice on the menu for the evening meal would have been nice, but it was adequate. The only one big criticism is that the heating in our room 002, was very noisy and we had to turn it off at night to be able to get any sleep, we reported this on 2 occasions, but nothing was done, I do realise that this was a bank holiday weekend, but I would have thought maintenance staff would have been available to look at the heater. Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Impressed We stayed at at the hotel for one night with a very late arrival. Got a bit lost and the staff on duty gave extra directions to help us. The room was wonderful and clean and the sofa bed ready for our son. All the staff we met could not do enough for us and as we live in the Channel Islands and travel regularly by ferry, we will certainly have this as our first choice hotel. April 2, 2013

Unfortunately the beds were an absolute disgrace, the worst i have ever stayed in. They were the equivalent of sleeping on a camp bed, which gave me my worst nights sleep ever. On mentioning this on check out, the receptionist said that all rooms were due renovation & to ask for a new room if i stayed again!! March 22, 2013

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Uncomfortable bed with good service On arrival i pointed out that the quilt which was supplied was inadequate for the bed as it just covered the top surface. The response was that all the rooms are now like this. I have used the company for many years and have not come across any hotel which does not have the adequate bedding . It was a very cheap quilt which does not support the cost to stay in the holiday inn express brand. March 11, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by School Holiday Weekends Best Avoided Having stayed here before for an odd night booked again, unfortunately this time round was not so good. The first room we were allocated had the noisiest air-con unit you have ever heard so had to go to reception and moved to another room, the next room we were allocated was fine, apart from not being far from the lift/stairwell so were woken umpteen times during the night by noisy guests who have no consideration for other guests who wish to be asleep at 1am, 2am, 3am, - you get the picture! After a bad night with little sleep ventured to breakfast at 9.15am – that was a mistake as every other guest must have chosen that time as well, there were no seats available and it felt more like a MacDonalds Kids party than a quiet Sunday breakfast due to the noise and amount of children in the restaurant, eventually found seats but the quality of the food was very poor, for the hot selection there were only 4 items, (shrivelled sausages, grey scrambled eggs, baked beans, some type of bread) there was not a mushroom, tomato or rasher of bacon in sight and those items that were available you would not have wanted to eat anyway. We will certainly be looking at other options next time we come to Poole before we would use this hotel again, granted it was the last weekend of the school half-term break but that does not account for most of the faults that we have mentioned above, if breakfast is to be included in the cost of the rooms then it needs to be of a much higher standard than the one offered and there needs to be enough seating available for people to enjoy breakfast without feeling rushed to leave as others are needing the tables. My only complaint would be the noisy heater/air con unit in the room but as I turned it off at night it was not a real issue for me. February 25, 2013

The staff were always accomodating and polite. The hotel itself is also within a 2 minute walk of the Lighthouse arts centre so is well situated if seeing a show. February 22, 2013

The room was very nice; a little larger than normal and very smart and clean. The Great Room was clean and tidy and the menu not bad either. All in all it made a very pleasant stay. February 17, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good as long as you don't want a cooked breakfast Great location, staff and rooms. BUT the cooked breakfast is terrible. Buffet style composed of cheap sausages, solid scrambled eggs. No pots of tea just a tea bag in a cup of fairly hot water. First time I've stayed at a UK hotel and not had bacon on the menu. I'd rather pay less and get my own breakfast elsewhere or pay extra for a freshly cooked breakfast. If you want to know how it's done visit any Premier Inn for pointers. February 6, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Winter break Had 5 night break here last week. Hotel was very quiet with few guests. Surpised to discover on arrival that both the ground and third floors were being renovated, and whilst there was some noise from hammers and drills it was short lived and did not cause us any great disturbance. However should someone have told us about this work on reserving our room?. Hot choice for breakfast is limited and repetitive, but adequate. We did experience some noise from the smokers outdoor decked area in the early hours, it was -5C at the time! In summer on balmy nights this may cause some disturbance I would imagine. Overall we enjoyed our visit, the hotel is clean and comfortable, in a good position for Poole town centre and has a large car park December 18, 2012

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Great location We selected this hotel as it was close to the Lighthouse concert/theatre in fact it was only a 3 minute walk. The hotel is also close to the main shopping area and a 20 minute walk to the harbour. We arrived a couple of hours to early but we found the staff very helpful, giving us useful local directions and allowing us to park at the hotel. When we eventually checked in we were given a room (202) on the ground floor there were numerous dirty plates and dishes immediatly outside on the floor by our door which was unsightly. The room itself was comfortable and tidy the only moan would be that the wall behind the headboard was absolutely covered in dust across it's width and height and needed a good hoovering, however it didi not spoil our stay and we would return to the hotel in the future. The location to Poole Park, Dolphin Shopping Centre and the harbour is perfect. Friendly staff and good service. Breakfast very nice but would have liked, maybe, alternatives - bacon would have been nice instead of scrambled egg, beans and sausages. Anyway cold breakfast additions supurb. We are looking forward to booking again in the Spring. Thoroughly recommended. December 4, 2012
