Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Stay I checked in on a Friday evening and stayed until Sunday morning. The staff were very courteous and friendly a schedule of the airport shuttle and cost were immediately provided. I did not like the notion that I had to pay 3 pounds everytime I took the shuttle as with most hotels the shuttle service is free. While the hotel is across an airport field, it is also situated near a highway and vehicle access is the primary mode of accessing the hotel. I would have preferred walking to paying 3 pounds. Nonetheless, the food was as expected very expensive but very good and the service also a plus in my book. I did also appreciate knowing ahead of time that WIFI was only in the lobby and it made that aspect more bearable. The business center more than helped me as I needed to print my bus tickets and the ATM was a welcoming convenience as well. I overall loved the tranquility of the hotel and the set up of my room and the option to be environmentally friendly by not having my towels washed each day. Overall te hotel was expensive but I was surely recommend it to anyone traveling to London. I would stay here over any more expensive hotel in London as I was able to purchase a $15 bus ticket via Terravision to travel to and from the city centre August 16, 2013

For a short overnight stay before an early morning flight it was really good value for money, clean, comfortable and the radio worked which for us was important, we don't watch much TV. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Upgrade from non-disabled to "Disabled" I've always loved the breakfasts, and appreciated the superb Reception Team. This time, I limped in, very, very tired and in a lot of pain. When I mentioned that I might not manage a "normal" shower I was up-graded to "Disabled" - as a room was available. What a difference it made. I was over-joyed with the layout, both bedroom and bathroom. So happy to be "Disabled" - till I recover from injury. The breakfast was good too! August 12, 2013
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bad experience: Room smelled like smoke and A/C didn't work. Staff was NOT helpful. Although we reserved a "non-smoking" room, our room reeked of smoke. We were able to switch rooms, but to a different room type that was NOT what we reserved, because they didn't have any of those type left. Then, we turned on the A/C because it was quite warm, but the room just kept getting warmer. I tried to call the front desk repeatedly to report this, but the phone just kept ringing--no one answered. My husband finally went down to talk to the staff, who said that maintenance had gone home for the day so nothing could be done. Terrible service! I can't believe that the staff didn't answer the phone, and that they couldn't take care of our problem. We should have received a substantial discount. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Also, it was ridiculous that there was no wifi in the rooms. August 11, 2013
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Hotel fine, shuttle service a bit shonkey. The hotel is as expected, lovely staff, nice bed linen and a decent dinner menu. Nothing really to complain or rave about. The only thing I didn't particularly like was the shuttle service. £3 per trip per person. In the morning there were too many people to fit on the bus leaving many people stood outside the hotel, worrying about catching flights. Because the bus was so full lots of people were standing and being shunted by other peoples luggage. This must be a fairly regular occurrence - and they have the cheek to charge more than a London bus fare for the pleasure! August 8, 2013

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Clean and comfortable I had to find a hotel close to the airport as my flights were at odd hours. I also did not have a car to drive so I was looking for a near by hotel. I stayed at the hotel twice in a week. I found that the hotel was conveiently located (only few minutes ride on the shuttle) though the shuttle can get crowded so need to get on the shuttle early. The check in was reasonably quick as I am a Club Member and did not need to fill in forms as other visitors had to do. The rooms were quite clean and tidy (typical of Express experience). I also liked the fact that there was a 24 hour open McDonlads just down the road which was very helpful given I could not try the breakfast at the hotel as I was fasting on both occassions and had to eat quite early (3am). So having a McDonalds nearby was a blessing in disguise! Overall, I was quite happy with my experience and I am going to use this hotel again next time around. August 6, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Stay Fell Blow Expectations As a regular customer of Holiday Inn Express I had high hopes of the Stansted property. In fact right from the check in experience everything fell short of expectations. The check in lacked fluency and staff seemed conditioned to the fact that this was an airport hotel and customers were there strictly on a 'one off' basis with little likelihood of return. In other words they were not conditioned to provide an exceptional customer experience of the type that would engender repeat business. Equally the guest room was shabby, in need of decoration and in general uncared for. Soundproofing was sub standard and when in the dining room for breakfast tables were left uncleared and the general atmosphere was very 'down market'. It is likely that I will stay at this hotel again, not because I want to but because my business brings me to within a mile of its location. In conclusion I feel its a shame that the standard of this property has fallen so far behind that set by other Holiday Inn Express properties around the UK August 5, 2013
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Details Make the Difference Holiday Inn Express Sanstead was recommended to us by friends who had visited during the winter months. While the price of the room is fantastic, the details were missing. During our stay, our party occupied 4 rooms for a 6 night stay. We specifically chose Holiday Inn Express because of the "details"--free breakfast and air conditioning. Both were huge disappointments. The air conditioning operated more like a fan, simply circulating air in all 4 rooms. We notified management who said they'd look into it. Later that evening, a sign was posted indicated the air conditioning was non operable at that time and they were sorry for the inconvenience. The temperatures were in the 90's during our entire visit. Additionally, the windows were unable to be opened, which meant our rooms were essentially ovens. It was a huge disappointment. We asked for some type of compensation, which was denied. The breakfast is another issue. It was adequate the first two mornings, but after flavored yogurt was replaced by plain flavored yogurt, and we looked at the same old, same old fare each subsequent morning, we opted to find other options. Again, details make the difference and in this case, those same basic details that highlighted Holiday Inn Express and convinced us to commit to this establishment are the exact reasons we were less than satisfied with our experience. All in all, a huge disappointment. This hotel may be best for those staying a weekend. August 4, 2013

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient for early flight but room stank and breakfast was very poor We had an early flight and choose this hotel as it is close to the airport and was reasonably priced. Breakfast was also included in the price which seemed positive. Unfortunately we did not have a good stay. We arrived quite late and wanted something quick to eat in the restaurant. The service was very slow though and the bar where you had to order drinks and food was understaffed. We queued for 20 minutes just to place an order. The food we wanted to order was not available and the stonebaked pizzas we did order was tiny and tasteless. Not good value at all. The room did also disappoint. It stank of would and the loo didn´t flush properly. The pillows were very hard and uncomfortable. After a few hours sleep we got up to have breakfast. We knew that there wouldn´t be any hot food available early in the morning, but we had hoped for a bit more choice than just toast and cereal. That was all. No choice of bread, no choice of fruit, no choice of cold cuts and no choice of cheeses. Breakfast was a great disappointment. We would not choose this hotel again. July 22, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by We spent a short and comfortable night here We arrived very late to the hotel from London, and left very early in the morning for our departure flight. The hotel is connected to the Terminal area by a shuttle which costs a pound per person (fair but would think that for a once in 30 minutes service, and no options walking, it should have been free for hotel guests). Typical Express property: Nice basic rooms. Bathroom was very comfortable. No WiFi in rooms. Breakfast was descent but nothing over the standard for the HE brand. Just across the parking lot one can find a 24/7 McDonald's and a big gas station drugstore. As far as I recall the hotel also offered a selection of foods for reasonable prices. Service was quick and efficient. Do not recall recognition for the Priority Club status but than I do not usually look for that. Altogether a good experience and good value for the money. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Arrogant and Dismissive Staff Checked into my room around 8:30 PM. After dinner and a shower I discovered that there was no power to the one available electrical outlet.. I called three times for help. No answer. I dressed and returned to Reception which was busy. I waited in line and after 5 minutes I got to the desk. I asked why no one answered the phone when I called down. "We're BUSY, can't you see?" was the response. The second man behind the counter threw a pen and a sheet of paper in my direction and told me to write a complaint to the management.. I asked for help fixing the outlet. No one on duty. I insisted on getting the issue resolved. Eventually I was given another room on a different floor. By the way there was no power to the TV there. I spent three weeks touring Europe and stayed mainly at Holiday Inn's. No problems with any of the other properties. July 11, 2013
