Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Alan73 Squeaking doors , thin walls
Stayed in room 3, which is lower ground floor. You could here people walking through reception in heels above. The bathroom door squeaked so loud everytime you went to the bathroom it woke everyone up and the bathroom is that tiny you have to move the door to get to the loo.
The doors in the communal hall weren't much better. The walls are incredibly thin too.
The pillows are rubbish , the beds cheap. Oh and the fire alarm went off early in the morning, by far the worst hotel I've stayed in.
I did raise the issues with reception & was offered 2 drinks vouchers , fantastic!
I wold not recommend this hotel to anyone

my wife and I often stay at holiday inns. We find them to be comfortable and good value. The breakfasts are enjoyable and staff are well trained and helpful. We shall continue to use holiday inn hotels.

A hotel well placed for the train station and work the next day. Easy to find and convenient.
Staff welcoming and knowledgable without being pushy. Room clean, comfortable and well lit for reading/working.
Breakfast, good basic fare well presented in a bright welcoming room.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by samanella Very poor duvet
This was our first stay at a Holiday Inn Express and it was disappointing due to the duvet. It was so thin a piece of tissue paper would have been warmer. Also it was too small for the bed, there was no overhang at the sides. The heater worked the first night but was very noisy and it only blew cold on the second night. Reception said that they were in the process of replacing all the duvets but that didn't help us. We would stay again however and hope to get a new duvet. Breakfast was excellant

There was no recognition of Platinum member status. In all hotels that I have visited within the group a free drink or extra points voucher has been awarded. Why is this not the practice at this hotel?

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ExperiencedHotelGuest Good Location with friendly and efficient staff
Had business to attend in Hayes, so the location was good as it would be if your need was for an airport hotel.
Easy and no cost parking was welcome.
Good first impression created by reception staff, who were also very helpful and found time to show a bit of good humour.
My "double" room and bed were tiny, though clean, tidy and quiet through the night.
Friendly and efficient bar and restaurant staff, where breakfast was very good, with dinner really falling into average and nothing to remember.
The chamber maids are worth mentioning, not just because the room and surroundings were clean and tidy, but when I locked myself out of my room they declined to let me back in, as a security measure. I had to go to reception and identify myself to be given another keycard. I liked that !
I would be happy to use this hotel again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Soulbrosis Car Park Issue
Having stayed at the hotel several times, always at weekends, we feel that more could be done regarding parking. Given that we use the hotel as a base, to travel to London, and that the rail station is only a 5 minute walk away. It is most annoying that we cannot park the car and leave it for the whole weekend. We are sure that some arrangement could be made where the current car park could be used for longer than the 2 hour period, during the day. For which we would be willing to pay a reasonable fee.
The hotel itself is very comfortable and an excellent base. A good cooked breakfast is available.

i checked into this hotel on the 19th November for a three night stay having booked a double room for single occupancy for three nights. Reception did not acknowledge my reward club status but i was checked in quite quickly. The room I was allocated was already occupied so I had to return to reception luggage in tow! No apology for the error, i was just handed another key card for another room. This room was not a double room but a twin with two single beds, resulting in a second trip down to reception. The male receptionist rather rudely told me that my booking was not for a double as there were no doubles available at the time off booking and would not reallocate another room despite my telling him that this was not the case and that I would have never stayed at the hotel if there were no double rooms available. After checking my email confirmation I emailed to complain which resulted in a free nights stay and a written offer to give me another room for my third night. Too little too late I am afraid as I will not stay this hotel again!
Now to the room - It had a slow leaking toilet!
A toilet that must have been leaking for some considerable time as the door lining to the en suite was saturated with water to approximately 30cm high.
The heating did not work in the room and the cleaner left the window open on day two of my stay leaving me cold in bed that night
No one at the hotel bothered to apologise to me in person!

Felt sorry for the lovely lady at reception who was being barated by someone who barged in front of me and could only be described as Mr Ribena - although I don't think he was on blackcurrant.
Anyway, as he headed off for more vitamin C in the spoons and weather pub next door, she was obviously still flustered when she served me as she just went through the key-giving motions. I didn't get a usual rewards club acknowledgement, but she was smiley and jokey enough by the end. Not to worry, I needed to catch some zzz's. Or rather I would, if I could have turned off the fan in the loo. I turned everything off, but it sounded like I was a wind tunnel experiment. Two hours later, I had to bung it up with tissue. Slept well then. Don't worry, I took the paper silencer out in the morning. A belated apologiy to the next guest.
Breakfast room was busy, the express breakfast standard express breakfast - nothing to really have a go at, even the eggs (although tired) were still edible.
OK departure but a strange hard sell to 'buy direct next time' - err, I always do - but never mind, Stevenage made a change and I managed to catch a few hours in nod, and it was a bargain.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Dodgygibbo Basic hygiene control a concern
Damaged cup in room, mentioned to reception after drinking out of this cup. To my horror the same cup was placed upside down back in my room. I want to know how this cup was washed and dried unless they carry mobile dishwashers around now. Sorry but I will bring my own cup now.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by ManInRoom101 Good economy rooms, but non-smokers beware
I've stayed here a few time now due to work commitments locally, and given that there's free parking across the road and breakfast included, you'd be hard pressed to beat it on value for money.
However, despite the hotel having a no smoking policy throughout, the last two times I've stayed there was an unmistakable smell of smoking permeating the corridors and, more importantly, the rooms. Clearly previous guests have ignored the hotels policy and smoked in the rooms, and the smell is ingrained in the furniture. Holiday Inn need to enforce their penalty for guests who flout the rules and perform deep-cleaning of some of the rooms.
I would recommend this hotel to others who need a cheap night in Stevanage, but if you're a sensitive non-smoker, ask to move rooms if you find yourself allocated one of the bad ones.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by doyouwantareview Great value and comfortable
We chose this as it had additional bed for 15year old son to stay and was near station. It had a licensed lounge/restaurant where we ate in the evening. Lasagne, chicken tikka and panini. Food was well priced and perfectly ok. Convenient as too tired to go out. Central if you do want to. Free overnight parking and surprisingly good breakfast included in price. Had expected just continental breakfast but there was good fresh scrambled egg, sausage, cereals, fruit, toast, croissants, pain au chocolat, unlimited tea /coffee. ALso wi fi is free everywhere despite what it says on the website. Strongly recommend.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by York24 Great hub for travels
The Stevenage Express location is near several modes of transport, but quiet enough to regroup and make plans. The comfortable environment eased making required contacts. If the in-house information system included specifics on train and bus operations, this would extend their customer satisfaction.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Ady09 Very disappointed
The hotel is modern and staff very helpful and efficient however the room reeked of smoke, the bathroom looked clean but smelt really badly of urine and the sink was blocked and took about 5 minutes to drain away.
I did report the issues to the staff who gave a refund and apologised. This is however the only time we have been disappointed with the standard of a Holiday Inn.

my wife and I had a housefull of family for a wedding. we needed sometime away for just one night and we are only half a mile away from Holiday Inn. The price was just about right and beat "others"by some twenty pounds!.
Staff food and room were just what we needed and we arrived at the wedding fully refreshed, well done Holiday Inn.
