Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by ManInRoom101 Good economy rooms, but non-smokers beware
I've stayed here a few time now due to work commitments locally, and given that there's free parking across the road and breakfast included, you'd be hard pressed to beat it on value for money.
However, despite the hotel having a no smoking policy throughout, the last two times I've stayed there was an unmistakable smell of smoking permeating the corridors and, more importantly, the rooms. Clearly previous guests have ignored the hotels policy and smoked in the rooms, and the smell is ingrained in the furniture. Holiday Inn need to enforce their penalty for guests who flout the rules and perform deep-cleaning of some of the rooms.
I would recommend this hotel to others who need a cheap night in Stevanage, but if you're a sensitive non-smoker, ask to move rooms if you find yourself allocated one of the bad ones.

The heating in the room did not work. this hotel doesn't offer any substantial meals (just microwave snacks). there is a Wetherspoons nearby - the best you'll get.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by doyouwantareview Great value and comfortable
We chose this as it had additional bed for 15year old son to stay and was near station. It had a licensed lounge/restaurant where we ate in the evening. Lasagne, chicken tikka and panini. Food was well priced and perfectly ok. Convenient as too tired to go out. Central if you do want to. Free overnight parking and surprisingly good breakfast included in price. Had expected just continental breakfast but there was good fresh scrambled egg, sausage, cereals, fruit, toast, croissants, pain au chocolat, unlimited tea /coffee. ALso wi fi is free everywhere despite what it says on the website. Strongly recommend.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by York24 Great hub for travels
The Stevenage Express location is near several modes of transport, but quiet enough to regroup and make plans. The comfortable environment eased making required contacts. If the in-house information system included specifics on train and bus operations, this would extend their customer satisfaction.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Ady09 Very disappointed
The hotel is modern and staff very helpful and efficient however the room reeked of smoke, the bathroom looked clean but smelt really badly of urine and the sink was blocked and took about 5 minutes to drain away.
I did report the issues to the staff who gave a refund and apologised. This is however the only time we have been disappointed with the standard of a Holiday Inn.

my wife and I had a housefull of family for a wedding. we needed sometime away for just one night and we are only half a mile away from Holiday Inn. The price was just about right and beat "others"by some twenty pounds!.
Staff food and room were just what we needed and we arrived at the wedding fully refreshed, well done Holiday Inn.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Eljo Great service and a modern comfortable hotel
This was a stopover for a London meeting enroute to Stansted for an overseas trip. My first impressions were very good as the hotel is modern and clean; in particular, the friendliness of the check in staff who went out of their way to make us comfortable was something I rarely see whilst travelling.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Bologna61 Fell a little short
This is a decent hotel, well run, friendly staff & excellent location near the station for fast access to London. Sadly on this, my second visit, it fell below it's earlier standard. The room was fine but wifi wouldn't work & my eve snack meal really was poor. I will stay again but will give the meal a miss.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Wills0358 Excellent value for money
My wife and I stayed for 1 night. We didn't check in until 10pm. Reception was not manned at the time and we had to find the receptionist who was in the back office. He was very pleasant and booked us in without fuss.
The room was superb. Very clean and the bed extremely comfortable. The breakfast was good, with various cereals , scrambled egg, beans and pastries. There was fruit, fruit juices and various hot drinks, coffee, tea etc. The toaster was poor, run the bread through once...barely toasted, run it through twice...burnt to a crisp on one side. Definitely needs sorting.
Parking was limited, but a Matalan car park across from the hotel was available f.o.c. with a pass available from the hotel until 9am the next day.
Overall can't really fault it for the money...we would definitely stay there again.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jk21 Great value
Clean, spacious , comfortable rooms with every you need including free wifi and breakfast. Staff were helpful and friendly too which makes a huge difference. Very near station. I recommend taking a taxi or walk to the old town for the restaurants - much nicer atmosphere than the nearby retail parks.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by haze64 Great place!!
This is our third stay at Stevenage and we are always made welcome. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. Staff are friendly and it is very close to the shopping centre with large shops, banks and cafes.
Whenever we are in the area, this is the place to come.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Mags65 Thin duvet
The duvet provided was too thin. I woke at 2am feeling cold, and there were no blankets in the room. At that time of night I was not going down to reception. Luckily as I was the sole occupant I could use the duvet double but if I had been sharing the room, both of us would have been cold. If I come again I will try and remember to bring a sleeping bag.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Masha11 Really friendly and helpful staff
The Holiday Inn at stevenage was a comfortable and relaxing hotel. The staff were really helpful and friendly. The downside was the breakfast which was not good. The croissants were overbaked and inedible, the toast came out black and the cappucino came out black as the machine had run out of milk. We went to a cafe elsewhere for breakfast as we couldnt eat what the hotel provided.
I would stay there again as the staff were woinderful.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Thomas4 Comments on room availability & breakfast
We arrived at just after 2pm to be given a key for Room 103, having asked for ground floor accessibility. The room was not ready and receptionist then said there were none yet prepared on the ground floor. Having established that there was a lift we settled for Room 426 on the 3rd floor which was of a good standard.
Breakfast appeared to be going well and comprised an adequate choice of basic items until, when going to make two more slices of toast it was found that the slice of bread on top of the heap was extensively green with mould on its reverse side. Attention of staff was drawn to this and apologies were offered. The bread was taken away and (within the kitchen area, apparently changed). The new batch was brought out and, if comment had not been made, was apparently going to be placed in the uncleaned bread receptacle. In view of offered comments this did not happen.
We had, however, already eaten bread from the contaminated bin and were wary that a stomach upset could have been the result. Fortunately this was not the case.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 Slightly Dissapointed!
Having stayed here a few years ago I have to say I was slightly disappointed this time round.
When I checked in and went to my room I had a disabled room which I did not book. Reception was great and swapped my room immediately and apologised. Breakfast was very unorganised, not enough food out, no plates, cutlery and queuing was chaos! They need to put a system in place, perhaps two lines. There were near collisions with staff bringing in and out food in the kitchen! Perhaps 2 doors, one for in and one for out would be ideal!
All in all the staff and accommodation was good and I would stay here again. They just need to think about a few things I have mentioned.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by sci4fun good for a quiet stay
What I like about Hol Inn Express is it's predictable, unfussy and simple to 'bed-in' for the night. I know which toiletries, drinks (tea/coffee) & internet will be provided, so I know what doesn't need carrying; I don't need to clat my luggage with shower gel & shampoo, nor have 3G organised, so it makes taking a quick or last-minute trip simple. Having not had any of that to worry about, getting my head down for thenight is easier, as I've had no stress beforehand. Their Stevenage one is good for sleeping too, as it's quiet, with none or very little road noise depending on which room. An easy walk from the train station - tick. Cheap enough tickets & fast travel into London for day trips - tick; even better value at weekends. Central London is very pricey for hotels, whereas the extra travel to Stevenage from say Moorgate or Finsbury Park is not too bothersome, so it makes the overall deal for me. I will be staying again.

We were a little disappointed with the provision of towels for the room. When we arrived the room had two bath and two hand towels which was what we required. However when the room was cleaned in the morning one bath and one hand towel were removed ,so we just had the one bath and one hand left for the two of us which we felt was inadequate.

Comfortable room and bed with tea/coffee making facilities and TV. Hotel is very quiet and relaxing with no disturbing noise and a great help-yourself breakfast every morning. Staff were friendly and efficient and went out of their way to help, without being obtrusive. Hotel is in a great location for shopping, pubs, restaurants and local bus and train services if you are not driving.
