Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Place to Stay Holiday Inn Express is a great place to stay in Swindon. Most of the staff are very friendly and supportive. On the whole they are great except for some strict policies and rigidness in slight amendments to Check-in dates and cancellation charges. August 20, 2014
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Poor night's sleep and awful breakfast I've stayed in Holiday Inns in the past and been very happy, so I thought the budget Express chain would be better than its competitors too. However, I wasn't impressed by the Swindon version, even though it was clean and the staff were helpful. The first problem is finding reception. You enter on the ground floor, and it seems reception is two floors up on level 1. When you come out of the lift, there are no directions. I eventually found reception in the cafe. And by nosing around I also eventually found a sign near the lift, completely obscured by floor to ceiling marketing for the IHG rewards card. The second problem is the noise at night. There's a very loud nightclub close by and the noise kept me awake until 4 or 5 in the morning. The third problem is breakfast. Hot options seemed to be limited to cheap and nasty sausages, unpleasant, greyish dried out scrambled egg (powdered?) and baked beans. Not even bacon. I can't remember having a worse hotel breakfast. I have no idea whether other Holiday Inn Express hotels are any better, but I have no wish to find out. And next time I'm in Swindon, I'll definitely be staying elsewhere. August 20, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Comfortable bed & fair service On arrival I found the reception staff not very helpful. I arrived early & was told that the room was not available - Fair answer. But reception could have asked if I wanted to leave my luggage behind recption, so that I didn't have to carry it around Swindon! I think that the lighting in the 'en suite' area is far from bright enough, I found it extremely difficult saving with such a low light level. August 19, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Nice Hotel This is a surprisingly nice hotel, I was expecting less as from the outside it did not look that great. We had a disabled room and there was plenty of space for a wheelchair. The only downside was the beds are not too comfortable. August 19, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Ideal Location in Decent Accommodation We stayed here for 5 nights in June, 8 in August and have just booked another 5 for September. Why? PROS: Friendly staff who make a genuine effort to ensure a pleasant stay. Everywhere feels fresh and clean. Excellent parking close by for a very reasonable charge. Tea/coffee/ice always available. Good size lounge/bar. Central for a variety of very good - and not so good - eating places; also for shopping. Relatively short and easy drive to nearby countryside. CONS: Hopefully the mattresses will soon meet the quality of those at Premier Inn. They are bearable but feel rather worn. TIP: Pack some hangers in your case if two of you are staying more than a couple of nights as there are only the standard 5 or so available. (This is not a criticism of the Hotel as it applies to most places). August 14, 2014
