LOCAL CULTURE

Hoi An

Hoi An is Vietnam’s most charming and atmospheric town, an old port city that has remained remarkably well preserved for hundreds of years. A stroll through the city’s lantern-lit old town, along winding lanes, temples and Chinese shophouses is a romantic journey to the past. Hoi An (then called Lam Ap Pho) was the main trading port of the Cham Empire from the 2nd to the 14th centuries. The city rose to prominence again in the 16th century under the Nguyen Lords and became a major economic center. Chinese, Japanese and traders from Europe all played a role in the city’s development, giving it a uniquely international flavor. Today, Hoi An’s historic charm coexists with abundant shopping and chic modern restaurants, making it a top tourist destination and a culinary haven. 0

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful Place One of the few hotels that I can truly say I loved. The setting is amazing! We were only there for a short stay, but each trip to one of the on-site restaurants or even the loo was a treat; they are so cleverly and interestingly designed. The staff were extremely helpful and solicitous. The food was delicious. The beach was clean and well-tended. The pools were splendid. I could have stayed much longer. 28 July 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Unique experience My wife and I stayed at the resort for 8 nights in July 2014. We paid extra for the Club benefits and immediately received a room upgrade to a wonderful position, even though everywhere is great at this resort. The staff were excellent and we were always made to feel welcome and important. Special mention must be made of Lien in the Club lounge...always professional and attentive. This resort is truly unique with a beautiful private beach in its own private bay, views from everywhere, great service and welcoming atmosphere. One of the many unique experiences is riding in a funicular to the 4 levels...heaven, sky, earth and sea. "Where would you like to go , sir? reply.."to heaven". 26 July 2014
