LOCAL CULTURE

Hoi An

Hoi An is Vietnam’s most charming and atmospheric town, an old port city that has remained remarkably well preserved for hundreds of years. A stroll through the city’s lantern-lit old town, along winding lanes, temples and Chinese shophouses is a romantic journey to the past. Hoi An (then called Lam Ap Pho) was the main trading port of the Cham Empire from the 2nd to the 14th centuries. The city rose to prominence again in the 16th century under the Nguyen Lords and became a major economic center. Chinese, Japanese and traders from Europe all played a role in the city’s development, giving it a uniquely international flavor. Today, Hoi An’s historic charm coexists with abundant shopping and chic modern restaurants, making it a top tourist destination and a culinary haven.

    Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 19 November 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by One of the Nicest IHG hotels in the network Amazing and great value for money! Our children loved the kids club (usually max 1 hour at any other hotel) The staff really involve themselves in diverse activities with the children (didn't just stick them in front of the TV) and there were several things to do. Great books and inviting reading area - The library is a must visit while here. The only (and major) negative was the children's food. The restaurant menu is limited (room service had better selection for kids) and of incredibly poor quality. Fried rice isn't that hard, but the cook here managed to make it inedible. The Pho was without herbs and tasted like dish water. It was not even close to that which was described. The staff had a hard time understanding my concern and it was easier just to ignore it and move on. However, the adult food was cooked with love. Strange, but the western food was delivered to perfection - the Vietnamese food was just ok (had better Vietnamese food in the US). We ordered off the adult menu for the kids and the problem was solved. The real tell for us about the overall stay was we left the hotel trying to figure out how we could return. I only mentioned the food as it is important for the hotel to know and there was not a place to comment on the food during the survey. 18 November 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Absolutely perfect We recently stayed at Danang Sun and it was without doubt the best resort we have ever stayed in. Apart from the facilities and beach which were simply breathtaking, the staff and overall experience were equally as memorable. My wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary, and the staff went above and beyond to provide us with everything we could ask for and more, including a room upgrade, surprise bottle of red wine and chocolate anniversary cake, and unbelievable service. We stayed at the 'heaven' level, and that's the perfect way to describe this resort - heaven. Thank you so much! 16 November 2014
