LOCAL CULTURE

Hoi An

Hoi An is Vietnam’s most charming and atmospheric town, an old port city that has remained remarkably well preserved for hundreds of years. A stroll through the city’s lantern-lit old town, along winding lanes, temples and Chinese shophouses is a romantic journey to the past. Hoi An (then called Lam Ap Pho) was the main trading port of the Cham Empire from the 2nd to the 14th centuries. The city rose to prominence again in the 16th century under the Nguyen Lords and became a major economic center. Chinese, Japanese and traders from Europe all played a role in the city’s development, giving it a uniquely international flavor. Today, Hoi An’s historic charm coexists with abundant shopping and chic modern restaurants, making it a top tourist destination and a culinary haven.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by sleep qualiy Great in general except that it is a bit noisy when it rains at night. Both people and food are nice. 20 November 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Absolutely Heaven There are so many words for this amazing resort. Breathtaking views, stunning architecture and interior décor. Impeccable service. The rooms were beautiful and all had amazing views of the private cove. This resort has everything you need for a short stay or longer. We had 4 nights with a late check out on the last day. We were in Terrace suite on Heaven Level room 545. Very happy with the position and enjoyed the walks to the main areas. But there are golf buggies available 24hrs. The Namtram was amazing also making it easy to get from the top level of Heaven to Sea level, with Sky and Earth in between, its also run 24 hrs a day. The main things that stand out are the people and their wonderful service. With the staffs unwavering smiles and genuine motivation to give service and please us. The breakfast buffet was abundant with choices, all the food from the restaurants we had was presented so perfectly, and so tasty, we were excited to try everything. Citron and the Long bar were our favourite haunts. There were always extra surprises too with tasty snacks with drinks always supplied. We booked the tennis court, and we were driven in a buggy, then escorted onto the court like tennis stars with our rackets and ball being carried by a tennis court staff member , then served cold towels and bottles of water. All the staff were so lovely it made our trip. Staff are very friendly and if you take the time to endear and chat with them, they will give something else special to take away with you, just a little but of information about he resort or the culture of Vietnam or themselves. We found ourselves saying hello all day. . Apparently summer time is nicer, we were there in the winter. We still enjoyed leisurely times at the beach and pools. A definite 10/10 from us. And much nicer than main beach that stretches from Danang to Hoi An. If we wanted to go anywhere we just had to organise a driver or shuttle. Basically anything we wanted, this haven gave it to us. Amazing experience of decadence, without ridiculous pricing. If you are going to Danang this is the place to stay. 20 November 2014
