Founded in 1969, the Louisville Zoological Garden, is a 135 acre zoo. The "State Zoo of Kentucky" currently exhibits over 1,300 animals in naturalistic and mixed animal settings. The Louisville Zoo is accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA) and the American Association of Museums (AAM). During the 2006-07 season, the zoo set an all-time yearly attendance record with 810,546 visitors. The Louisville Zoo's mission is "To better the bond between the people and our planet."

Louisville Slugger Museum

The Louisville Slugger Museum shows the history of the Louisville Slugger brand, and baseball in general. The production of the bats is presented, along with historical examples of bats (such as an 1880s Pete Browning bat they recently discovered or the bat that Babe Ruth used to hit his last home run as a Yankee). Outside is a six-story bat that appears to be leaning against the museum.The bat weighs 68,000 pounds.It is billed as the world's largest bat, although it is hollow and made of steel.
