Positives - room excellent, plenty car of parking space & convenient for bus service into York.
Negatives - the Restaurant. Breakfast OK but some obvious areas for improvent. We booked DB&B package and the Evening Table D'Hotel menu that we had to select from varied in quality between acceptable & inedible.
Overall we would stay again because of the positives but would only book on a B&B basis and go for an evening meal away from the Hotel or choose from the Bar Menu.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Ex-Taxman Somewhat disappointing compared with Holiday Inn, Cardiff
The mattress protectors were too small and finished up each morning in the middle of the beds.
Either the duvets were too small or their covers were too large resulting in some disarray and discomfort.
Because the hotel had run out of tickets for the combined tickets for the bus tour of York and transport to the starting point, we had to pay extra to enjoy this experience.
The breakfasts were excellent, but the evening meal only adequate. One of our party was served a completely inedible ribeye steak and whilst he was not charged for this, it would have been courteous if the chef had apologised instead of leaving the waitress to take the flack.

Comfortable hotel with a reasonable level of service and better value for money than many other hotels in the area.

On arrival the hotel looks good, however it is old and in need of a much needed facelift. Compared to other Holiday Inns it is overpriced for what you are getting.
I was very disappointed that complimentary Wi-Fi is opt available in all rooms, as for the pricing for Wi-Fi use, it is grossly over priced, £7 for four hours.
I was also disappointed to find that complimentary spring water is only available if you book a room on the third floor.
The outside area by the lounge/restaurant was a mess, both rubbish bins were full, the ashtray on the wall in the smoking area hadn't been cleaned for god now's how many days, it was overflowing with cigarette ends.
I hope that improvements can be made overall to this hotel.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by cat1511 Sadly Disappointing Again
Started well with a nice welcome room was same as last time not offered an upgrade again even though rooms were showing available on the website, room satisfactory although bathroom was horrendously small. When trying to book table for dinner we were advised no sitting until 830, however we were offered to sit in lounge for dinner this was quite pleasant. Breakfast was fine until the Older gentleman (restaurant manager/supervisor) started shouting at the young staff in front of us found this very awkward and unacceptable. Checking out was an experience I never want to repeat whilst a young receptionist was dealing with a prepaid query an older receptionist with a short blonde bob interrupted us whilst chomping open mouthed on a amount of chocolate and talking at us through this mouthful of chocolate, quite disgusting!!
in completing this review hopefully it will help the hotel address these points and avoid other customers having to experience the same,

HI York is basic regards facilities: there is no leisure center or pool. Even the tv channels are basic with only 9 English language channels (including "5 USA"
