Things to do

Gettysburg National Military Park

Gettysburg, PA 17325

Walk the ground where the Civil War reached its turning point in July 1863. The battlefield spans thousands of acres dotted with monuments, markers, and cannon positions. A self-guided auto tour follows sixteen stops across the park, from McPherson Ridge to Culp's Hill. The park is free and open year-round. About a mile and a half from our hotel, entrance is easy to reach. Bring comfortable shoes and a sense of curiosity about one of the most consequential battles in American history.

Gettysburg Military Park Museum & Visitor Center

1195 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg, PA 17325

This is where every Gettysburg visit should begin. The Museum and Visitor Center houses the film A New Birth of Freedom, the Cyclorama painting, and the Civil War Museum. Licensed Guides lead tours that bring the three days of fighting to life. Just two miles from our front door, you can be inside in no time. Tickets for the film, cyclorama, and museum are on-site, and parking is free. Spend a morning here before venturing out to the monuments and fields where history was made.

Little Round Top

Sykes Ave, Gettysburg, PA 17325

One of the most visited spots on the battlefield, this rocky hill was the site of a desperate Union defense on the second day of fighting. Colonel Joshua Chamberlain and his 20th Maine regiment held the far left flank against repeated Confederate assaults, a stand that became legendary. Today, a trail system lets you explore the summit and the monuments. A short drive of about ten minutes from our hotel brings you to the parking area. Once you stand here, you will understand why.

Eisenhower National Historic Site

243 Eisenhower Farm Rd, Gettysburg, PA 17325

The weekend retreat and farm of President Dwight D. Eisenhower sits adjacent to the battlefield, offering a different chapter of American history. Ike and Mamie Eisenhower used this property as a getaway from Washington. The home and grounds are open for self-guided tours, with exhibits covering the presidency and life in Gettysburg. You can drive directly to the site in about twenty minutes from our hotel. Parking is limited, so arrive early during peak season.

Historic Sachs Covered Bridge

Waterworks Rd, Gettysburg, PA 17325

A picturesque wooden covered bridge built in 1852, Sachs Bridge spans Marsh Creek just southwest of town. Both Union and Confederate troops crossed this bridge during the Battle of Gettysburg, adding a layer of history to its quiet beauty. Today the bridge is closed to vehicle traffic, so you can walk across the 100-foot lattice structure. The drive from our hotel is about 7 miles along quiet country roads. Bring a camera, especially in fall.
