Arenal Volcano, one of the ten most active volcanoes in the world, is a fascinating natural wonder and must visit destination for many travelers to Costa Rica.

This park is just south of Quepos on the Pacific Coast, 132 km from San José. Perhaps It is so popular because of its expensive white sand beaches backed by an evergreen forest that grows right up to the high tide line.

Volcán Poás is an active stratovolcano with a huge crater that houses a turquoise acidic lake. Standing at 2,708 meters (8,885 feet), it offers you the chance to observe geothermal activity up close and personal. The rest of the national park is stunning, too, with cloud forests and flora and fauna you won’t find anywhere else. The trails are well-maintained, and the signage is engaging and educational.

The Café Britt farm "coffeetours" have combined an interesting tour and stage production to explain the coffee-growing process and highlight the importance of coffee to Costa Rica.

The Gold Museum, in downtown San Jose, is easily the country's best with thousands of different examples of Pre-Colombian gold artifacts. The pieces in the collection date from 500 BCE (BC) to 1600 CE (AD)

Tucked in the foothills of the Barva Volcano is Hacienda La Chimba, a privately owned coffee farm and biotourism spot. Enjoy miles of hiking trails that wind through coffee plantations and lead to famous landmarks like the "La Mano del Mantra" sculpture. La Mano is a giant hand you can climb onto to see panoramic views of the mountains and mist. The hacienda also offers coffee tours, ziplining, high ropes courses, and a restaurant serving Costa Rican cuisine, all just a short drive away.
