You can descend into the dungeons and climb the battlements at medieval Warwick Castle, two miles from the hotel. Join the History Team to explore grand rooms packed with weapons, art and armour, or join in as costumed actors help bring the castle to life. In the summer, watch out for spectacular jousting shows and the shooting of a fireball from the huge catapult in the riverside garden.

Lovers of Shakespeare won't want to miss Stratford-Upon-Avon, only 15 minutes' drive from the hotel. You can explore the Bard's birthplace, see houses where he lived and seek out his headstone, with the famous curse on anyone who moves his bones, at the riverside Holy Trinity Church. In the evening, book tickets for a comedy or a tragedy at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Experience the thrill of horse racing at Warwick Racecourse, less than five minutes away by car or taxi. Attend the jump meetings and family fun days from September until May. You can hire a private box, splash out on lunch in a restaurant with a view of the finish line, or join the trackside crowd to cheer your horse home. If you fancy a glass of champagne, there's a direct bus too.

The hotel is an ideal base for local day trips. You can see fine art and sculpture at Leamington Spa's Royal Pump Rooms, 15 minutes' drive away. Kids can paddle on the river in a kayak, or hunt for rhino and dragon sculptures in Jephson Gardens.
