I choose this hotel as I meet up with my grandson through the year who lives in the Glasgow area... he loves the swimming pool. The lounge area is good as he likes the piano in the bar area...It is also very handy for any concerts at the SECC...the breakfasts are good and the rooms clean...It is only a 30minute walk along the Clyde into city centre...

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Taff1304 Professional and excellent service.
We have stayed at this hotel loads of times as a couple and with our children, and i have to say i can't really fault it, it has always been a lovely stay. Just recently we decided to stay a couple of days over Christmas, and it was excellent. We arrived at the hotel, way before the recommended check in time because my husband and i had treatments booked in the health and beauty department before taking our children to the Irn Bru Carnival at the SECC. The receptionist had said that although our room wasnt ready we could check in and take another room. This we agreed to do, however when we checked into the room we noticed that 1, the room was opposite the lifts and had heavy doors and 2, the room had not been hoovered. We informed the receptionist of this and said that we were happy to wait for our orginal room, but she gave us another room. The other room she had given us was one of the suites which was excellent, as my husband and i had a room to ourselves and our children had their own room and space to play in. Because we were staying over the Christmas period our children were given various activity packs and chocolate by the hotel which was an excellent idea as the activity packs kept them entertained for a few hours. On Christmas day we had our Christmas lunch in the hotel, which was absolutely delicious. There is a wide choice of vegetarian meals as well which is a plus for me!! Our children were in awe when Santa showed up on his sleigh, and had got their names right when handing out their Christmas presents. Our children enjoyed the 'magical' day and it was a lovely stress free day spending time as a family. The hotel was a memorable stay and we are going back next week and hoping to do the Christmas experience again next year.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by R280 Good for SECC
We were visiting the SECC and this hotel is the obvious choice as it has a very nice covered walkway to the SECC. The hotel itself had a nice atmosphere and the excellent reception staff explained all we wanted to know, which made a good start to our visit. Rooms were as expected and the food was good so all in all a good experience and would return again.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Ada13 Fair but cold
I have stayed in many hotels and this one is fantastic for having a concert on at the secc. I have stayed before around winter and forgot how cold the rooms were. There is a fan that blows heat out with three speed settings, but the only problem is the noise. I could not get to sleep unless it was turned off. I woke up freezing and had to turn it on to take the chill away. The duvet could not have been a high tog either as it didn't keep me very warm. The bed was a king and a bit soft for my preference but at least I never woke up with any aches. The decor was nice and room seemed to be clean. It hasn't put me off booking again but I think I'll take thermals next time.

Stayed in hotel Wed 12th Dec 2012. Went to a concert in the SECC. Hotel was like a menagerie. Two bar staff trying to serve lots of people. Guests were queuing up at both sides of the bar and it took at least 30 minutes to buy a drink. Ordering food was worse. Staff said it would take 15 minutes! We got our one course meal after 1 hour. The food was good when it came.
The hotel may be handy for concerts at the SECC but It is not geared up to handle large volume of guests. I would not recommend staying there!

This is a lovely hotel to stay in.The rooms are tastefully decorated and exceptionally clean. We enjoyed the food. The only thing we didnt like was having to queue for breakfast thought the queues did go down quickly we got the impression that the queues only happen when there is a concert on at the neighbouring SECC.I would highly recommend this hotel.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by KennyM An extremely disappointing experience.
We stayed a this hotel for two reasons - to celebrate our wedding anniversary and take in a show at the SECC. After a long wait to check in we were advised that the restaurant was fully booked and that we could not have dinner before going to the show -a disappointing start!
Our room was small but comfortable enough for one night. Unfortunately one light in the bathroom did not work at all and the light in the hall area, just inside the door to the room flickered on and off constantly - these problems should have been noted and dealt with when the room was prepared.
There was only 1 each of shampoo, shower gel, etc, and only 1 bath robe (which had seen better days) - not at all appropriate in a double room occupied by 2 guests and not what I expect in a hotel of this standard.
Breakfast was another major disappointment. After another long wait for a table, I was advised that it was buffet only and that I could not order a freshly cooked breakfast. The food was, predictably, luke-warm , under cooked and greasy.
In a hotel of this standard, charging these rates, I expect a freshly cooked breakfast served at my table.
Overall I think this hotel is grossly over-rated and over-priced for the service provided. I have stayed in many fine hotels, both in the UK and abroad on business and for pleasure in recent years. This is not one of them. I am most unlikely to stay here again

Enjoyed every minute! Room very comfortable with great views. Great food.......the breakfast was 1st class best we've ever had.... so much choice and everything piping hot. We came to see Andre Rieu at the SECC and the corridor from the hotel through is a bonus....saved us from going out in the cold frosty night.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Jane4 Do not stay at this hotel during Xmas party season
Me and my husband stayed the night after going to a concert at the secc, the overall cost was high in comparison to other hotels in Glasgow, however the proximity to the secc was worth the extra room charge. We arrived late afternoon and the bar/restaurant staff were excellent and the meal in the restaurant fantastic value for money and great service. At the stage we could fault nothing. There were numerous staff Christmas functions at the hotel with a few drunken people stumbling around in public areas later in the evening. It wasn't until 1am that our hotel experience changed with the duty manager banging loudly on the door opposite our room. When the occupants finally answered there was an exchange of words and the manager left. Thereafter there was a stream of guests banging on the door, very loud and abusive behavior which at one stage sounded threatening as if a fight was going to break out. The noise eventually stopped around 3am. When we discussed this with the duty manager the next day, there was no acknowledgement of our disturbed stay or action taken to rectify the situation, in fact the dm said that there had been incidents in other areas of the hotel, but she had no record of ours!!!! Have heard nothing since. Very poor customer service, can't blame the dm, as I think she was very junior, it's the policy of dealing with rowdy occupants that needs addressing.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by nash room stay for a concert
Cannot fault the room, King Size Bed, spacious room, good facilities.
Breakfast cost £10.00 ( we booked a room only deal) but was unlimited in its amount so good value.
Only disappointment was that as a resident you have to pay to lodge your car overnight in the hotel car park. £6.00GBP. This is scandalous bearing in mind you are technically a resident. I agree witht he charge for non residents due to its proximity to SECC as parking would be abused, but for patrons of the hotel it should be free when you check out of reception
only hotel I have heard of to do this...scandalous.
The bar is expensive also but they have a captive audience, I purchased a pint of draught coke( not even bottled) and a pint of draught lemonade £7.50p. OUCH!!!!!!!

Stayed while taking in an event at SECC..Room 204, spacious room lovely big comfy bed. Had a really good night, woke next day about to go in shower when noticed body hair left on edges of bath. Room was serviced by Ewa and there is absolutely no excuse for previous guests body hair not to be cleaned out of bathroom. Left me feeling sick and paranoid about how dirty the rest of the room could be. Couldnt wait to leave. Told receptionist but she didnt seem to think it was of any concern. Her opinion was if you come back we will upgrade you. As if your going to return to a filthy room, not likely.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 57416 Good Food and value
My wife and I are regular visitors to the Crowne Plaza and and decided to stay here as we were going to the Good Food Show.
It is so convenient to get to the Secc ie through the connection.
This time we took the D,B & B option and were really impressed with the options - either the buffet or choose from the menu up to a value - we took the buffet option and that was a good choice - we don't normally eat a 3 course meal but this time had to as the food was really nice.
The staff in the Crowne Plaza have always been very good and I show know as we have been coming here for the last 13 years!

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Beaglenut Christmas Exuberance - Victim of it's own success?
Booked 1 night to catch a show at the SECC just next door. The hotel is perfect for this and has a good car park. The breakfast buffet is very good so all in all a pretty good package. Be aware though just how busy it can get and plan ahead. We did not book a restaurant place in advance. Our show started at 2000hrs so we went down to book food at the quarterdeck eating at 1515, knowing it would be busy. We finally got our meal at 1910, after chasing it several times. The restaurant manager was very apologetic, explaining the probelm that night of Xmas parties and the booked out show. By apology he arranged for a bottle of wine to be left in our room. Since the SECC and the hotel are interconnected and only 5 minutes apart we made the show ok.
Regarding the room . we book club (16th floor) which gives good views. We had to ask though for an extra bathrobe and toiletries ( why when a booking is for 2 isn't a room set up for 2 guests?). These had to be asked for twice ( re pressure on staff i think). Although Club, the furnishings are in no way luxuorious--in our room the sink plug lifter was missing and the desk chair had some covering torn on the arm.

Stayed at the hotel for a concert in the SECC. It is so suitable for attending concerts with direct indoor link by indoor passageway to the hall. Very comfortable room, no noise to disturb your sleep in a lovely bed. Spotless clean facilities and nice ambiance. Good Scottish breakfast in the ;morning served in a comfortable dining room with excellent service. Will definitely use this hotel in the future. Thoroughly recommended in every way..

We stayed for one night as we were at a gig in SECC for my husband's birthday.. This was our second visit but this time we had a king club room. The Club lounge was brilliant and the bed was sooo comfortable!
Breakfast great as ever and staff very helpful. Didnt get time to use the leisure facilities unfortunately.
My only complaint was that the noise of the air con/heating was pretty annoying(16th floor). Lovely views though-will definitely be back!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by highlanddoc Highly recommended
Whenever my husband and I are going to be in Glasgow, my first thought is to check whether rooms are available at this hotel. Although not in the city centre, there is an excellent taxi and frequent train service, and the lack of city centre noise during the night helps aid sleeping (for folk from the Scottish Highlands - where night noise is an occasional owl hoot !).
The staff are invariably charming and helpful. The fitness facilities and staff are superior to most other hotels in the price range. The breakfasts are great (but not conducive to losing weight, unless you have great willpower). As a Platinum ICT member, we're normally upgraded for our room choice, so we have only ever experienced the best quality rooms (but they're superior to others in the chain). All round, I cannot find fault (and I've just booked us in again, having been there only last week).

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quofan64 Kevin, you're a legend!
Crowne Plaza staff at reception got this short break off to a welcoming start with their friendly, efficient service. All members of staff we came in contact with throughout our stay was what made for a most memorable break. Room and en suite were spotlessly clean and very well furnished. Restaurant and bar staff were all polite and welcoming. Food was of a very high standard.
Kevin, in the Club Lounge, is a legend! He made us feel right at home, an excellent mine host.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by diydiode great location ,great menus
the buffet on Mondays is good value and quality ingredients (by the look of).
The ONLY gripe is that they go a bit mad on the veg and drown it in butter. The green beans and the roast parsnips expecially were swimming in the stuff.
But , the pomegranate ,grape and berry salad was EXECELLENT !!!!!!!.Top marks for that.

To make this better free wifi in rooms and a refurbishment of the rooms would make my overall rating as five star.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by ColF A hotel with mood-changing powers!
Without putting too fine a point on it, dear readers, I was not in the best of moods when I arrived at the Crowne Plaza, Glasgow. I had just driven down from Aberdeen in snowy conditions, the satnav had thrown a fatal wobbly when I needed it most, it was pitch dark and I was tired and hungry - I'm sure you get the picture.
The poor girls on reception were treated to the delightful sight of me rolling up to them - bedraggled, miserable and dragging all my gear behind me. Immediately on arrival they started to lift my spirits with their pleasant smiles and friendly chat. Things were already looking up. I was being gently and skillfully lifted from my gloom. As Christmas was getting closer they even gave me a nice chocolate Santa - how thoughtful was that! As a Platinum member of the Priority Club (not in? - then join it!) I got a room upgrade (with one of the best views of the Clyde you'll ever get) plus access to the PC member's lounge too.
By the time I had settled into my clean, modern and spacious room, my mood had been turned around from 'yuk' to one of being pretty happy. Being in a nice room won't cure your hunger though, so I popped down to the restaurant for a great meal. Again, the attitude of the staff made just that extra bit of difference.
All Crowne Plazas are excellent, but there are some Crowne Plazas that stand out by taking quality to a higher level still. Crowne Plaza Glasgow is just one of those hotels. I won't be staying anywhere else when I'm next in town, that's for sure.....

The hotel is comfortable and located fantastically for attending concerts/events though a bit overpriced. The bed was huge and very comfy and the heating and lighting was good but the cleanliness of the room let it down with stained carpets and with what appeared to be dog hairs on it (even though not a dog friendly hotel?),filthy windows on inside, black scum around taps and shower screen and the toiletries were very sparse.I think the hotel have to look at their housekeeping team a little closer. Also, the mini bar in the room had only 2 bottles of water in.Overall a bit dissappointing given the cost.I would expect more from a hotel of this standard for the prices charged

I asked reception to fix a problem and was told it would be next day it was not so I wrote a note to the duty manager, who chose NOT to get in touch with me. When I checked out the next day I waited till I had paid the bill. And was going to leave and asked to speak to the manager on duty , she told me it was the reception staff fault because I should have been moved on the Saturday when I first complained as this was the policy, no word about her collegue who read my note this person just put it on the computer, my coclusion from this is that the crowne plaza DOES NOT have a policy to move guests as she said to me The policy is just to blame the reception staff for the mistake and hope the guest just goes away and forgets about the bad service that we get.

Have stayed at the Crowne Plaza Glasgow many times, for business.
The hotel rooms are in desperate need of modernisation and some rooms a good clean!
Some staff are extremely helpful, some are unbelievably rude, unfortunately the latter seem to be the norm, particularly reception staff.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Ksully Disappointed on this visit.
I have stayed at this hotel at least once a year since 1990. I liked its location, good parking facilities, (during the 80's I had had my car broken into twice when parking on the streets of central Glasgow) reasonably priced food and good service from the staff.
Most of the previous visits were for business reasons but we decided to make this one purely for pleasure.
We stayed on the executive floor which provided a club room for breakfast, hot and cold drinks including cakes and biscuits during the day and canapés with drinks (beer, wine) in the evening.
I have used club rooms in many cities around the world with many pleasurable stays in convivial surroundings.
Sadly the club room at this hotel didn't live up to my expectations.
Compact some might say, personally I would say very small! Continental breakfast although adequate was only served until 9am, a little early on a Saturday and Sunday.
On the Saturday evening when we returned from a shopping trip at 6.30 the club room was full to bursting with no food and just a glass of red wine remaining! Another bottle was opened but very quickly consumed by other residents.
On the Sunday morning whilst reading the paper and enjoying a cup of coffee at 10.30am the room was suddenly commandeered by a photographer with enough equipment to fill the room no explanation or apologies given.
I would certainly consider staying at this hotel again but would definitely avoid the exec floor. Management must realise there is a plethora of new hotels in Glasgow all vying for business.
I did read that the hotel has introduced quiet zones (great idea) but only Sunday to Thursday. Our room was near a lift and on both Friday and Saturday the noise from residents returning to their rooms at 2am in the morning woke me up several times, why not have quiet zones every night?
