I stayed at this hotel with my family (2 adults and 2 kids). The room had been partially renovated (the bathroom was not), so it was (Holiday-Inn) standard, comfortable and nice. Our floor was quiet so we could rest properly.
The weakest point was breakfast: it was actually bad (undrinkable juices, already toasted toast which seemed to have been done the week before, disgusting croissant, ham and cheese). I complained about the breakfast quality at the reception desk and the staff limited themselves to smile.
When we arrived at the hotel I was not welcome as a Gold Priority member and the woman was not precisely kind to us (I asked her about buses to Covent Garden and she told me to go to the nearest bus stop and check destinations there). By contrast, the woman with whom we checked out was very nice and smiling.
The hotel is quite far from the nearest (Kings Cross) underground station (approx. 15 minutes walk) and the area is not very nice.

Only a one night stay though, but still had good time. The hotel is on a main street, but rather peaceful and quiet. Nice 10-15 easy walk to the British museum area. The frequent bus 63 from near the hotel to the Kings Cross/St Pancras tube/train station (5 minutes ride). Staff were remarkable and helpful by all means and with great attitude. Room was clean and well equipped but I could sadly hear very well the noises and singing made by the people staying in the adjacent room during the night...
The lobby and breakfast hall are busy usually and you get the feeling of a "busy GROUPS hotel" but than that's London in July. Very good value for the money and especially for those whom are not "first timers" in London and do not mind that you need to make a minimum of a 2 legs public transportation journey to get to the door of the hotel from central London (no tube station within easy walking distance).

Myself and 13 friends had a day and night in London, we decided to stay at this hotel and it was excellent . I would highly recommend it. ps the breakfast is very very good.

Stopped here for 1 night and could not have been more happy with the service, room or food.
Location was spot on and just a short 5/10 minute walk to Kings cross station.
The room was a lovely size with 2 double beds. Breakfast was really nice and a huge selection of food constantly being topped up.
Thank you to the lovely helpful staff who made our short stay a great one.
Next time we are in London we will defiantly stay here again.

During the 2-day stay, the receptionist was very friendly and the breakfast was very good. The room was very comfortable and spacious for 2 adults and 1 young child. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay.
However, the distance to the nearby underground is bit far. It could be a relaxing walk but not for busy people.

The room was adequate for our needs (2 adults and 2 kids), however the "continental breakfast" put us off trying any other food at the hotel.
We went down on our first morning to see what was on offer (in hindsight - rather wisely - we'd only booked a room). When we got to the dining area we were immediately asked what we wanted - even before we'd been shown to a table.
When I asked if there was a menu we could choose from, we were told "no"; the choice was "continental" or cooked. We opted for the former.
Apparently, a continental breakfast consists of coffee from an urn that's obviously been on for at least an hour, obviously cheap orange juice concentrate, baskets of rubberized croissants and piles of cold toast. Not unreasonably we felt that, if a hotel can't get the toast right, there's no hope for anything else.
It also seems that cutlery and plates were at a premium - we sat at a table with four seats that seemed to be set for one and a half.
Thereafter, we ate out for breakfast.

Prices in London in summer are high - very high. For a 4 star hotel;, this is often one of the lower, if not lowest costing. But you get what you pay for. The rooms are pretty comfortable - the bed and sofa bed are fine, if looking a little tired. You couldn't however swing a cat in the bathroom. The lighting is poor, so a dark room, and the standard lamp cannot be moved, so if you want tor read, or work and watch the TV , well you can't.. The difference between an exec room and an ordinary room is a strange wooden barrier between the bed and the sofa, but as it is mostly wood round a hole, you can't actually have one person go to bed and the other person continue trying to read. - so I am not quite sure why it is there.
The biggest problem though is the food, It is really not nice, especially considering the price. Oh - and room service stops at 10.30pm, after that they will give you a domino's or Indian restaurant menu to order in. I now buy my supper from M&S and take it in with me, next time I will also take my breakfast,. Ordered breakfast in my room this time. it came without a cup, no sugar, no condiments, and there was no toast - but I did get 2 eggs!!, Just typical.
When one of the kids has travelled with me - the sofa bed has invariably been broken, and they end up giving us 2 rooms - but what we will do when they are full - god knows. But maybe that is why they are rarely full, unlike many other hotels which are 4 star. I get the feeling that nobody in this hotel really prides them self on doing a job well. They just firefight through the complaints.
So why do I stay - well the shower is hot and efficient; they will provide extra pillows. I have a very bad back, and always pre-order the pillows but I always have to ring down and hang on the phone for some time in order to get them delivered; &. as I am a public sector worker and spending public money - I stay because it is usually the cheapest of the 4 stars hotels and it is reliably always the same.

Room really good, check in friendly and efficient.
English breakfast included in room rate - food average. Waiting staff very attentive and efficient.
Only 10 minute walk from Kings Cross - and attractions that we wanted to visit within walking distance, some over 2 miles away, however there is a really good London Transport System - would have been useful to have public transport information in hotel lobby rather than just the expensive tour bus information and booking point.

We only stayed 1 night but it was a very comfortable stay. The staff were helpful and courteous and we were upgraded to a superior room even though we had not requested this. It was great. Very impressed with the hotel group and would not hesitate to stay again or to recommend to any of our friends.

My last stay at Holiday Inn Kings Cross was worse than my previous stay. When I reserved the room, I specifically asked for a NON-SMOKING bedroom. However, upon arrival I was given room 225 which is a SMOKING bedroom and reeked of tobacco. When I returned to the Reception to express my perplexity, I was told that the Hotel was full (as if it were my fault that my initial request was disregarded) and only with great reluctance I was moved to room 146 which, however, turned out to be a room for the handicapped and it strongly reminded me of a hospital ward. To say nothing of the fact that it lacked such simple things as slippers...
On the whole, I was disappointed.

Lovely reception. We enjoyed the meal. Breakfast had a very good choice. Fantastic service & we were well looked after.
Unfortunatey, the sofa bed was very uncomfortable & I did not get a good nights sleep. So not good for family. We loved the wonderful pool etc, should have been included rather than paying extra.

Overall a relaxing and pleasant stay. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Accommodated my request for shower not over bathtub room. Was very surprised that they only had 1 such room and that bedroom was small.
Staff met my specific requests within reasonable time limit given the large number of guests checking in and out at the time.
In this day and age Wi-fi should be free in the rooms especially to those staying several days and Priority Privilege members
Restaurant dinner service was very friendly and meals delicious. Full breakfast was a bit expensive with different rate charged on Saturday, and another on Sunday.
Need to have smoking and non-smoking rooms on separate floors.

Overall experience was fair. Bed wasn't exactly comfortable. Food was alright, not fantastic. Staff at the reception was not fantastic. Being a hotel guest I would have expected the gym facility to be free (never had to pay for using the gym at any hotel I've stayed in#. But what I am most unhappy about is the fact that I have just seen GBP10 charged to my credit card for laundry when I have clarified at the reception that I have made only 2 laundry service, which has already been charged and there wasn't a 3rd one. I was told at the reception that it will be waived #even though I have clearly indicated I did not make a 3rd laundry service request, they made it sound like I was out to cheat this GBP10!!!) After spending 15minutes at the reception explaining, checking etc... the GBP10 has still been charged to my credit card!

The staff are fine, no complaints there. I stay at this hotel very frequently yet they NEVER have my priority number recorded. On my last stay, I was given a smoking room and hated it. You'd think that given lots of business travellers stay here, there would at least be an under-counter rail at reception to hang my suit carrier, whilst checking in. I've mentioned it loads of times but to no avail.

The hotel is lovely. Very clean, with great rooms, excellent facilities and a hearty choice for breakfast but the staff are appalling. They act like someone died. Permanently miserable, unhelpful and act like when you ask a simple question you are putting them out.

I am a frequent visitor to this hotel - and I think it is improving - slowly. Yes, some of the bathrooms are looking rather tired - and the corridors feel stuffy. Air Con / heating in the rooms is highly variable - and smoke can filter through from smoking to non smoking rooms. That said, however, the staff really do, do their best to help you. If I was visiting this hotel for the first time - I would not necessarily visit again - but - week on week, I really do appreciate the good service I receive.

Hotel was ideal for our requirements. Close enough to Kings Cross to be an easy walk and well placed for exploring. We arrived at 5pm and, as it was a lovely evening, decided to walk to St Paul's Cathedral, the Old Bailey, Tower Bridge, Tower of London, Globe Theatre and River Walk, Very pleasant! The rooms in the hotel could do with being refurbished but were clean and functional. All the staff, from check in to concierge and breakfast staff were friendly and very helpful. The English breakfast included in our rate really set us up well for our day sightseeing! We would certainly return to the hotel if we were in London again.

Stayed two nights for my sisters wedding with husband and 2 children, managed to book a room with 2 double beds which was very clean and comfortable and perfect for us. There's a fantastic park (Coram Fields) just down the road to stop the kids getting bored and very children friendly foods to choose from, plus great, quick room service to enjoy. Breakfast was really nice and all the staff were really friendly especially as one of my children has learning difficulties.

There was all the day only cold water.
No chance to have a shower.
The managment at least has reduced (the anyway unbelivable high price) because of this.
