Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not A Good Stay! I stay here frequently on business. The young men at the front desk are top notch. I checked in at 5:10 this evening. They gave me a double queen room. As a Spire Elite member I have ALWAYS been upgraded. I asked for an upgrade. They told me all the upgraded rooms were gone. I told them I thought they saved rooms for Spire Elite members, especially a frequent guest. There was nothing they could do. When I get to my room I try to turn on ESPN HD. I couldn't get the station. I called the front desk and they told me they are having trouble with the HD channels and they were working on it tomorrow and I would have to watch ESPN without HD. I told them we were not off to a very good start tonight. My next stay in Cedar Rapids I will try the other H.I. Express on the north side of town. November 18, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poorest service I've had Long time business traveler, first time reviewer. Made my reservation online. Arrived at hotel around 4 pm. Front desk attendant was quick to give me my room keys. Went to room and there was no refrigerator. Called down to same front desk attendant. Explained that I had to have a refrigerator due to my work and that I have never been to a Holiday Inn that did not provide this. Attendant's response to me was that I could keep things in a refrigerator downstairs. Then he hung up on me. I went downstairs and told him I needed a refund and that not having a refrigerator was not satisfactory. Attendant claimed that he couldn't give me a refund. He did move me to another room. He said that since I was an IHG member (I'm a platinum elite member) he could do that "refrigerator upgrade" at no additional cost - and swap me out with another guest that hadn't yet checked in. Next morning, different attendant on duty. He eventually came to the front desk when I inquired where the receipt was, since it was not placed under my door. I leave early for work and this is an important feature since the receipt must be turned in for my expenses. This attendant assured me it would be under my door shortly. I went to my room, finished getting ready (discovered the dirtiest shower with black hair hanging off shower curtain, in drain and scattered over tub - and ANTS) and sure enough, receipt arrived under door. I went downstairs to leave the property and discuss the ant/cleanliness problems in my room and bathroom. Unable to locate the attendant, a fellow customer informed me that the attendant went out for a smoke break. I did not have time to track down the attendant. I have never had such horrible service, downright dirty room, ant infested room and inability to contact staff, than I had at this property. I was treated like I was an inconvenience, instead as a paying guest. November 17, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Convenient, comfortable location We stay at this location two or more times yearly because it is very convenient to Hawkeye Downs where we attend antique shows. While there, we usually also travel to visit and eat in Amana and to "antique" in Marion and Mt. Vernon. The premises are clean. The breakfasts are quite adequate. Acceptable restaurants are near. For others with similar purpose and moderate taste, we recommend this location. November 15, 2015

I had booked one more day than I meant to the clerk at check in was very friendly and made the change with no hassles. I did use the fitness room several times and the equipment was in good condition. Check out was a breeze. November 5, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very clean We went for a concert. This hotel was minutes away, and I love HIE! The hotel was clean, and the staff was friendly. My only problem was that the elevator was a little scary. It seemed to shudder and stop between floors for a second, then continued. I avoided it where I could. We didn't have time to test the pool or fitness area. We overslept and missed breakfast, but breakfast at this chain are usually great. November 3, 2015
