Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Always satisfied I have stayed here every time I have come to Long Island (3 times now) and am always satisfied- the only time there was an issue (given room with 1 king instead of 2 queens) they apologized and immediately fixed the problem. I noticed at this last visit, that many of the workers are the same ones I have seen each time I have been there over the last year- I feel like that is a good sign. The breakfast is probably one of the best hotel provided breakfast bars I have had. The only "negative" is that I have never had them even mention I am an IHG member....it is not even something I would have usually thought about except that apparently it is something they are supposed to acknowledge! In fact, the breakfast staff gets things going early than required. The exterior parking lights in the parking lot were not working and made the area outside the hotel extremely dark. Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A Fine Hotel for Busy Travellers The Holiday Inn Express at Stony Brook has one of the best handicap accessible rooms I HAVE EVER STAYED IN, I use a wheelchair and the hotel chain has to be especially commented for the accessible bathroom facilities. At least in the room I stay in. It's not perfect but the best I've ever seen. The shower system, including shower curtain is excellent. The sink was quite adequate with lots of counter space to place medical supplies, toiletries, etc. It would have be helpful to have a taller faucet spout and a shallower sink.. The staff is friendly and very helpful. My only downer was that on one multi-day stay the housekeepers did not clean my room or the bathroom. That can be quite disturbing, especially at the rates the area hotels can command. I think there was a change in management as the overall quality of the hotel has seemed to drop slightly from a year ago. For example, no check out documentation was delivered to my room the morning of my departure. A small point but it's the little touches that mark the difference between just another night in a hotel and fostering the charm and magic of ones hotel / travel experience. Overall, the Stony Brook HIE is a wonderful hotel and one I go back to and stay at every time I come into the area. October 9, 2014
