We were in Alabama for the first time to vacatiion with our family at Smith Lake. Beautiful area!
Not having been there before we booked a room online at another hotel and arrived very late the first night. The desk staff was very nice but when we opened the door to our room...I wanted to cry. The smell and dirt was awful. I tried online to book another hotel but no rooms that night. It was awful!
The next morning I was able to get online and found Holiday Inn Express just blocks away with an excellent rating, so we booked the rest of our stay there.
It was excellent! The desk staff were very friendly and went out of their way to share information about the area and Lake Smith. Our room was spotless! Very comfortable beds, clean bathroom with a very nice shower.
The hot breakfast with eggs, sausage, toast, and hot coffee was excellent...the best i have had at a self serve buffet. The pancake machine was awesome!
We will be sure to look for Holiday Inn Express on our travels and just hope that they are all as nice as this one.

This was a very clean, comfortable hotel. The continental breakfast was delicious and very adequate. We shared it with members of a youth baseball team, which made seating a little tight but we made do. The staff was very accomodating. I would highly recommend it for a good night's rest or any other traveling needs.

This is a nice property. If you stay at Holiday Inn properties a lot, this will not be anything out of the ordinary.

Below is the email I sent to the General Manager regarding my stay. When in Cullman in the future, we will stay no where other than the Holiday Inn Express. The staff was, hands down, one of the best I've ever experienced.
"My fiancé and I stayed at the Cullman Holiday Inn Express during our visit for Rock the South. I'm very critical of hotels, and I tend to be a very picky guest. I just want to praise your staff for being, well, incredible. Ms. Dee greeted us as we checked in, and she treated me the way my mother would if I were home for a visit. She handed me fresh fruit and told me of all the things nearby. Our room was well kept and very clean. Your housekeeping crew is top notch. When we asked for extra shampoo, not only did they provide it, they offered fresh towels. The breakfast was outstanding and incredibly fresh on both mornings. The staff asked if we would be eating in the dining area or if we would need a tray to take food to our room. I was thoroughly impressed. My fiancé lost a memorial bracelet he wears in honor of his deceased brother. When we asked Thomas upon checkout if it had, by chance, been turned in, he wrote down our contact information and a description of the item. He indicated he would have the housekeeping crew look for it when they cleaned our room. Most places would've told us "tough luck". While this was our second Rock the South weekend, it was our first stay in your hotel. We will return to Cullman for RTS in 2015, and we will stay nowhere other than the Holiday Inn Express. Please pass on our gratitude to your staff. It tends to be the small things that make the biggest difference, and they've mastered the small things. "
