We spent one night here near the end of a two week road trip. We were tired and had to do laundry in their public facility. When we discovered there was no soap available to do laundry, one of the staff went and found some for us. He also helped later when we had problems with the dryer. His attitude and helpfulness made what could have been a difficult situation very easy to deal with.
The room was comfortable and clean. The hotel is well maintained with easy access off Interstate 40.
The staff recommended a restaurant, The Northern Pines, within walking distance for dinner. The food there was tasty and reasonable.

We stayed here because my mom was having surgery and we live over an hour away.
When we first arrived we were greeted warmly and quickly even though they were busy checking in other guests. Safir was very sweet and friendly. He gave us a bag with bottled water and chips in it. Throughout the stay everytime he saw us he would ask how my mom was doing. It made the stay at this hotel so nice.
Breakfast was GREAT!
We stayed two nights @ the Flagstaff Holiday Inn Express and both mornings they had a wonderful array of choices.
The first Morning they had scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage links, Fresh made pancakes, fruit, cold cereal, 3 kinds of muffins, 2 kinds of bread for toast, 2 kinds of bagels, fresh hot cinnamon rolls, bisciuts and gravy, 4 kinds of yogart, juice and 4 kinds of hot beverages,. The second morning they exchanged the scrambled eggs for egg and cheese omlets, and the bacon & sausage links for ham slices & sausage patties. Otherwise everything else was the same. It was maintained nicely. You saw the Ladies taking care of breakfast constantly. It may not be a five star restaruant, but it wasn't a cheap one star hotel's continental breakfast either.
The pool is both indoors and outdoors. It says that it's heated but because of it being half outside it doesn't seem as warm as could be. But on the positive side it was cold outside and 8pm. So maybe in the summertime it might be better. the spa is outside, so if you want to soak in the hot tub and relax beware of the cold evening winds. Otherwise it was sooo nice and warm.
It's location was perfect to stay at to go to the hospital, the mall or any of the other wonderful things to do around Flagstaff. It's also close to I-40 for anyone who's just passing through.
The only complaint I have is that the Beds in room 320 were hard as a ROCK! they were clean but it felt like threre wasn't a matress at all, just a box spring and sheets. I stayed at another Holiday Inn Express, and their beds were much softer, and they had a matress pad on top of the soft matress making it even softer. BUT the good thing about the Flagstaff hothel's beds was that they had a metal box under them, so you couldn't lose anything under it, I really liked that.
On the other hand, I have read other reviews of this place and the management replied to their complaints with "The hotel is in the process of being renovated" so I hope that the beds in our room are GOING to be replaced and haven't ALREADY been replaced.

Everything was great......except the thermostat or lack of in room. Very noisy heating unit and was unable to adjust to hot or to cool. There wasn't any control on wall.

I was surprised and pleased with this hotel, knowing that it is not one of the newer built models. There was a small irritant with the shower alternating between hot & cold when someone would flush their toilet. And my room was right next to the elevators, which I'll never understand why they have rooms right next to them? I had a nice view of San Francisco peak out of my window. The room was clean and well arranged, with plenty of room for one or two people.

The facility is a little worn and tired. Staff was helpful, but needs some new mattresses, carpets and paint. Because the Interstate was closed due to weather, we were glad to find lodging, however.
