Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Didn't like change to Priority Club recognition From previous visits I was greeted upon arrival as a priority club member with a goodie package. During my check-in, I didn't receive a Priority Greeting and didn't get my goodie bag. Per the agent at the counter, it is a new corporate change to not provide a goodie bag. Unsure when this changed but I don't care for the policy change and would like to get my bag on future visits. Besides this, it was a good experience and would possibly stay here in the future. The hotel was very clean, staff pleasant and we stayed in one of the king suites which allowed us to relax in a larger room with a couch and chairs. I would recommend staying here again if you are not wanting a beach front hotel. February 17, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good for the price I stayed here on a business trip. The price was right and it was just enough "outside" of town that I didn't have to deal with any traffic, even when getting onto Atlantic and 295 during morning rush hour. Upon arrival, I was concerned when I read a sign saying that the water was going to be turned off for a few hours (estimated at 2 with a max of 4) in order to complete annual testing/maintenance. Turns out, it wasn't a big deal since it happened during the middle of the day and probably didn't impact too many people. No issues there. My room didn't have a TV remote when I first arrived, but the situation was quickly and easily fixed by a 2 minute walk up to the front desk. The room was in nice shape, though I was honestly expecting a traditional "desk" instead of a smaller coffee-table (I've been to a dozen HIE's over the past 6 months and all had had desks). No biggie really, as I still had ample space to get my evening "administrative" work wrapped up before dinner time. One thing I will note - the stay here includes free wi-fi. However, it is probably the slowest internet connection I've ever had, sans maybe my 14.4k modem back when I had a Mac Performer 495C during the early 90's. I like to catch up on Netflix/Hulu when I'm on the road (at home, it's mostly Sponge Bob and Curious George), but the poor connection speed lead to choppy service and I gave up using the free Wi-Fi quickly. I normally travel with a 4G Hotspot but had an issue with the SIM card, which meant I was stuck watching Moon Shiners (could have been worse I guess). The next day I went to the VZW store and fixed my Jetpack and was able to get proper internet speeds with that (and thus able to catch up on my Daily Show/Colbert Report's from the previous week :) ). All in all, I will be coming back to this area in about 6 months and will likely stay here again. Breakfast was good and on-time (I'm an early bird and hit the road by 6:20, so I need breakfast to be prompt!). The coffee was good, though the 6 large coffee carafes were rarely filled after 1 PM (I drink coffee all day). Of the three nights I stayed, one night had no coffee (6 empty carafes), the second had hot, fresh coffee, and the third had fresh, though lukewarm coffee. The hotel is about 15 minutes from Atlantic Beach and some good restaurants. Parking is easy and the lot was well marked, easy to find, and well lit. My recommendations: - Fix the internet. Seriously, I checked the speed with a known server and it was BELOW 1.2 Mbps. For comparison, my cell-tower based 4G LTE Jetpack gets 11-12 (a whole order of magnitude faster!) - Hot coffee at the coffee bar. If coffee isn't actually "served" at all hours (I'm pretty certain it is based off my experience at other Holiday Inn Expresses and the fact that there was cold creamer packs sitting next to the carafes), you should put them away as to not get the hopes up of someone who just put 400 miles on their rental in a single day. The staff is extremely accommodating with customizable check-in and check-out times. I had a dog with me and there was ample room for dog walking. I was put in a very convenient room where I could go down one flight of stairs when needing to walk the dog. February 9, 2014
