Candlewood Suites Nashville North stay (12/21-27, 12/29-31/2022)
My wife, myself and our small dog stayed for a total of 8 nights in two visits with a one-day break [12/21-27, 12/29-31]. We upgraded to a two-room suite at check-in, room 218.
On our arrival we learned the property had been used as a college women’s dormitory until the month prior. The Candlewood property showed the wear and tear of dormitory life and it was still recovering. We have stayed at this Nashville Candlewood in the past due to its location near family. We never had these issues.
On the good side, the front desk staff (especially the young women on Christmas Eve and day) were wonderful; however, the list of negative issues is lengthy and I am compelled to share them with you.
Upon our arrival, as we began to settle in, we made several trips to the front desk to get many items. There was no luggage rack. Then there were no kitchen towels, dish cloth, no ice bucket, no oven mitt or hot pad in the kitchen. In the bathroom, there was only one bath towel and no bathmat. I’d like to say we retrieved these items from the front desk all at once, but we made several trips as other missing items were discovered.
The kitchen had only 2 of each utensil, 2 cups and 2 glasses. As a result, we were frequently washing and rinsing using bathroom hand towels and wash cloths since the kitchen towels were still on order.
Outside our door, the carpet was lifted in waves and was a stumbling hazard and I unfortunately complied.
We bagged our own trash, re-bagged our baskets, and carried our trash out. We delivered our spent bath towels etc. to the front desk and retrieved new.
We found most of the washers in the laundry area were out of order, several of the dryers could not be used due to broken lint screens with sharp edges that caused snags in clothing if used. Repairs are desperately needed.
If all of that wasn’t bad enough, then there was the billing. In all my previous various Candlewood stays with my dog, I have never been charged for him. I’ve assumed it was because of my IHG status. On the first leg of our trip (6 days) however, I was charged for him. I was also charged for 6 days of parking at $10 a day. A few days later when we returned for our 2 day stay—no charge for either the dog or parking. As I said, I have never been charged for our dog or parking. The parking lot, at its peak had only 10-15 cars in it. This property is NOT near anything of tourist interest, is not downtown, nor near any attraction. Charging for parking is not warranted for this property and this fee was never assessed at other Candlewoods and then not for the 2-night stay a day later at the same Candlewood where we were charged.
The takeaway from this review is that this property did not provide the proper environment, amenities, or service that I expect from Candlewood specifically, and IHG in general. There was no price reduction for the state of the property. In fact, I felt price gouged. I can understand the need to recover from its use as a dormitory, but not at my expense.
