Beautiful Hotel... More work on creating guest experiences needed

I stayed at the Villa Concha Hotel - and have to say the building of the hotel, the rooms and the lobby areas are all beautiful! The location on Duval street is just perfect to reach everything interesting in key west. Given the location, and the luxury placement of the hotel, I was expecting to have a great experience.

I was quite disappointed to be honest. The quality of my stays at the Holiday Inn Express hotels have far exceeded what i have experienced with this Crowne Plaza - which is a more expensive brand of the IHG hotels.

To start with, I wanted to change my reservation online which would not go through from the App - so I had to call the hotel. I spend 30 mins on the international call to be able to explain the reservations agent what I need. As a platinum member I expect to be upgraded anyway, but the reservation agent could only offer me the standard room in exchange for the junior suite i had previously booked in exchange for the same number of points (only because i was changing the arrival date). Finally I told him (btw i spoke to two people - this agent and Katie from the front desk) not to make any changes to the reservation and that I will try online again myself.

The next day when I cancelled my reservation, to book another night, the points were not reimbursed to my account. i had to call the IHG hotline - where i spend again 40 minutes on an international call!!!

The reason I did not understand, but somehow the reservations agent had still changed my reservation and this was somehow consuming my points ( i was not able to see this in my account thought). The IHG hotline staff then told me she needs to confirm the cancellation from the hotel to reimburse my points. I insisted that I have already received an email confirmation but to her this was not sufficient. I told her this is absurd and I will not wait until tomorrow to book my night - what if i need a place to sleep tonight?! She then did not have another reason to give - reimbursed my points and helped make the new reservation for me.

Upon arrival at the hotel, I experienced quite a strange check in - i don't remember what the chaos around the front desk was.
Following are some things worth mentioning:

- I learnt that the hotel has a large parking area. But you have to pay a steep price to park there, plus it is valet only!
- I told the front desk agent that I prefer the welcome points instead of the welcome drink at the bar - but I have still not received these welcome points into my account.
- I asked the front desk agent about the shuttle service between the keys. She told me the concierge has left. I asked her if she could somehow get me this information to which she replied.... you can 'google it' - everything is available on the internet.

The worst part of the stay was sleep quality. there was a constant noise in the room...the fluttering of the shades outside the room, and some sort of water passing through a big drain. It made sleeping impossible. I had to play quite loud music to distract myself from this noise but it made sleeping impossible.

At check out the front desk staff asked me about my experience and I mentioned this.

In short, a beautiful hotel cannot make a beautiful experience without attentive and helpful staff.

My husband and I have been going to the Key West Fla for 3 years now and we will stay at NO other hotel- Crowne Plaza is located right on Duval St in the middle of everything You can walk all over. All the employees are friendly and go out of there way for you.

Staff was very kind to my family for this short vacation. The location of this hotel is key, you can get to all the top destination points by foot. What a beautiful place to stay. My wife and daughter loved the Spa!

Die Lage des Hotels ist top. Das Zimmer war okay, jedoch leider funktionierte das WiFi nicht im Zimmer. Das Personal war sehr hilfsbereit und freundlich. Ich vermisste mein upgrade und ebenfalls gab es nur ein Willkommensgeteänk obwohl wir 3 Personen waren.
Der Pool ist klein aber fein. Das Morgenessen war gut, aber sehr teuer.

The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast is quite reasonable for a hotel in that area. The beds are wonderful and the linen is very good. This hotel made our first stay in Key West very enjoyable. We will be back!!

Best Trip to Key West Yet Thanks to La Concha!

I have come to Key West for many years and usually look for places outside of town and rely on shuttle buses or taxis. This time I took my family and decided to stay downtown. I am also an Ambassador member of the IHG, and Crown Plaza is part of their hotel chain. I was impressed with everything about this hotel. The front staff is extremely courteous and the valet service was prompt and efficient. Note there is a valet charge of $26 per day, just factor it into your budget, I felt it was worth the convenience and they were always available. Hotel lobby is welcoming and modern.

You are literally near every attraction within a 5 - 10 minute walk, so the location is perfect if you plan to visit the Hemingway house, Truman Little White House, the Light House, Mel's Museum, and of course Mallory Square for the awesome sunsets and amazing street performers.

As a family of four, we had a 'junior' suite which was spacious including the bathroom. There was also a small dressing area. The housekeeping service was friendly and accommodating, providing extra towels every day. If you have breakfast in the hotel, keep in mind the portions are huge, so you may want to share. Absolutely enjoyed every breakfast dish we ordered - pancakes, eggs benedict, Cuban breakfast sandwich, waffles, all delicious and promptly served.

We had a third floor room, so you might hear some noise from the street below, but the air conditioner pretty much dims it effectively, and the windows have double glass insulation. Bed was comfortable and the Wi-Fi worked perfectly. There is no room safe, but a fairly good size refrigerator - there is also a 24 hour CVS right next door which has a huge variety of snacks.

There have been some comments about the roof top bar being gone, it is not, it was just moved to the pool area which is accessible on the second floor. Pool was small but nice, including the drinks from our friendly bartender. On the roof now is a new spa which has first class treatment rooms, my wife had an 80 minute massage and she was treated like royalty. If anything, they are more than happy to show you the spa if you choose a service or not.

So overall, absolutely no complaints, a little more pricey but you get what you pay for, if we end up coming back to Key West, this will be an easy choice to stay again and again

Front Door Staff

The staff working at the front door was very accommodating. One man allowed us to store our bags prior to check in and after check out before we departed from key west. He brought us to our room, showed us the amenities of the room and hotel, and recommended things to do around key west. Overall, this gentlemen made our stay at the hotel very pleasant. Also, we had a room with a balcony (which we did not know until we got to the room). I highly recommend a room with a balcony, it wasn't too loud either.
