Take a break and grab a bite to eat, or watch a movie at the 10-screen cinema. If you still haven't found what you're looking for, nearby Broad Street Mall has dozens more shops on three floors.

If you fancy a flutter, you can cheer on the thoroughbreds at Royal Ascot Racecourse, 16 miles from the hotel. Horse-racing meetings are held here throughout the year, and you can picnic by the track or book a private box if you want to entertain your clients in style. If you really want to make an impression, dress up for Royal Ascot week in June, and watch out for guest of honour, King Charles.

For a quintessentially English day out, make the eight-mile trip to pretty Henley-on-Thames. In summer you can board a boat from beside the hotel for a two-hour cruise downriver. Follow the Henley Trail through the town's historic streets, or sit in a deckchair and watch the rowing crews on the river. If you can, time your visit to coincide with the annual Henley Royal Regatta at the end of June.
