You can explore the lavish State Apartments and see Henry VIII's tomb in St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, half an hour's drive from the hotel. You'll see Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House, and you can learn about the castle's 900-year history on a guided tour of the grounds. Make sure you get there by 11am so that you can catch the colourful Changing of the Guard ceremony.
Take a day off to explore the cobbled streets and medieval colleges of Oxford, 25 miles from the hotel. You can visit the Marks of Genius exhibition in the Weston Library to see rare books and manuscripts including a Shakespeare First Folio, Tolkein's original watercolour illustration for the cover of "The Hobbit", and the hand-written manuscript for Mary Shelley's classic, "Frankenstein".
If you like to shop, we're only 15 minutes' walk from central Reading. At The Oracle shopping centre you can browse around 90 shops including an Apple Store, Debenhams and House of Fraser. Take a break and grab a bite to eat, or watch a movie at the 10-screen cinema. If you still haven't found what you're looking for, nearby Broad Street Mall has dozens more shops on three floors.
If you fancy a flutter, you can cheer on the thoroughbreds at Royal Ascot Racecourse, 16 miles from the hotel. Horse-racing meetings are held here throughout the year, and you can picnic by the track or book a private box if you want to entertain your clients in style. If you really want to make an impression, dress up for Royal Ascot week in June, and watch out for guest of honour, King Charles.
For a quintessentially English day out, make the eight-mile trip to pretty Henley-on-Thames. In summer you can board a boat from beside the hotel for a two-hour cruise downriver. Follow the Henley Trail through the town's historic streets, or sit in a deckchair and watch the rowing crews on the river. If you can, time your visit to coincide with the annual Henley Royal Regatta at the end of June.
