BIENVENIDO A San Francisco

Welcome to the InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco. Our experienced concierge team will be delighted to assist you in any way during your stay. Please allow us to enhance your visit to our wonderful city by the Bay. We look forward to serving you.

Our hotel is located in the historic Nob Hill neighborhood. We are on the California Street Cable car line, Cable Cars to Fisherman's Wharf are 1/2 block away at Powell & California St. The Cable Car Museum is 3 blocks from the hotel at Mason & Washington Sts. Grace Cathedral is one block away. We are within a short walk from Union Square, Chinatown & North Beach. We enjoy working at such a great historic hotel and our entire dedicated staff are here to make your stay most memorable.

Start your day with a ride on one of our iconic cable cars. Take the Powell Hyde Street cable car to Ghirardelli square, stop off at Lombard Street, our famously crooked street then continue on to the last stop at Fisherman's Wharf. To your left will be the Buena Vista Cafe; where breakfast and an Irish coffee is a real treat. When you can prise yourself away, stroll along Aquatic Park beach and then onto Jefferson Street; a great place, I think, to people watch. From the wharf walk up to Coit Tower and take the elevator to the top for a fantastic view of the city and the bay, often framed by the fog that rolls in and out.

Take the Powell Mason cable car to North Beach. Known as SF's 'Little Italy', it's full of funky shops and Old World delicatessens. Explore the boutiques on Grant Avenue and Columbus Avenue then the neo Gothic St. Peter and Paul's Cathedral, located in the centre of the neighbourhood. It's where Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio were photographed after their wedding. For me, any of the many cafes along Columbus Avenue will be ideal for lunch or just people watching while sipping a cappucino. But if I had to pick one I'd say try Calzone's, an Italian restaurant, popular for its al fresco dining and it's open late every night!

Dinner at the highly rated and recommended Gary Danko will start your evening off as it means to go on in style. Follow this with a cabaret show at Beach Blanket Babylon, another San Franciso institution with its extravagant costumes and, in particular, the largest hats you'll ever see. And finally, return to the hotel for martinis and, if you have some energy left, a dance at our landmark Top of the Mark sky bar famed for its spectacular views.

Don't call it Frisco!

San Francisco is a great diverse city, with its people from all parts of the world. We're friendly and enjoy showing off our city, don't hesitate to ask anyone for directions!

The standard is between 15-23%.

These are just guidelines for those first time visitors to San Francisco. It's customary to tip 15-25 percent at most restaurants. Porters USD3.75 per bag is standard. All San Francisco restaurants also charge a Health Care tax .

Transportation Muni Passports

You can purchase a 1, 3 or 7 day pass for your public transportation needs. They are currently USD14.00, USD21.00 and USD27.00. These passes allow you unlimited use on the Cable Cars and any city bus. The one way fare on the cable car is USD6.00! You can purchase these at San Francisco International airport information desks and certain retailers in the city.

Lombard Street

This is the most famous crooked street in the city but there is another one just as crooked, do you know where it is located? It's in the Portrero Hill neighborhood. Ask the Concierge.

Our year round average is around 60-65 degrees. Coldest time is in the summer with foggy nights and warmest weather starts in the fall, temperatures would be in the mid 70's.

Comfortable walking shoes and layered wool clothing.

The city has many steep hills and is a great walking city. Wearing appropriate footwear will help you enjoy its many charms without to much fatique at the end of the day!

Warm clothing

We recommend that you always bring a jacket. In San Francisco you need warm clothes with you year round as the temperature changes frequently. Layered wool or cotton works well in our mild climate.
