Wrongfully Charged Smoking Fee - No Contact from Manager

I have never had so much trouble with a hotel in all my years of traveling. From small local motels to the 5 star locations, I have always been treated with respect and my needs met attentively. I expected the same treatment from the Crowne but I have not received it. My traveling companion and I were only staying for a few hours on 5/2 to catch some sleep after a flight before I made the trip back home. Because we were paying in cash, we were asked to pay a $100 deposit up front, which we gladly did. We were told that it would be refunded the next morning. I left earlier than my friend because I was traveling farther and when he checked out they told him they could not release the deposit to him because the room was in my name. Still understandable, so I made a trip back to Dallas the next morning to pick up the deposit. The lady at the front desk (very nice) told me there was a smoking fee and they would not release the deposit. She gave me the manager's card name and number and asked me to call him Monday. I called him and after a few attempts got in touch with him. He was nice and listened to my concern and said he would call me back. That did not happen. I called him back and after several attempts finally got back in touch with him and he promised to call me back again with news. That did not happen either. I have since not been able to get in touch with George. I called back today (5/21) and spoke with the Reservations Manager, Jennifer (very helpful and nice), who sent George an e-mail with my contact information. I do not expect that I will hear back from George since I have been trying to reach him without success for the last two weeks. I do not smoke and my traveling companion does not smoke. I am SO disappointed in our stay. We almost froze to death because the A/C would not turn off and the bathroom was not cleaned well. The room itself had an musty smell which was very unpleasant. Did we complain? No. We were only going to be there for the night, we let it slide and chalked it up to the price you pay for getting a nice deal at a hotel close to a large city. If you ever have the displeasure of staying at this hotel, I suggest you have a manager come inspect the room upon arrival and departure to avoid having a to pay an additional fee. This is very disappointing.

I've stayed here several times and always have a good experience. There has been inconsistency as to whether breakfast is included or not, and I can never adjust the room temperature to anything above the Arctic Ocean. Otherwise, the team is generally very attentive and friendly. Food in restaurant is good as well.

Great stay, search for best price before booking. Hotel will not accommodate free night if you find price lower than your reservation anywhere else. Overall Nice Quality Hotel.

I chose the Crowne Plaza on an unexpected layover in Dallas because it was closer to airport and I thought it would be better than Holiday Inn or Holiday Inn Express. I was wrong, overall, hotel needs updating all around and room/bathroom needed cleaning, for example, nobody wants to see rusty shower curtain rings when taking a shower, c'mon, spend some money to keep the hotel up to date, please. Glad I was there only one night.
