Great beachside base for my conference

February 26, 2015

I flew in from New Zealand, the room was great, a high floor corner suite. The views were awesome, and the sound of the waves on the beach very relaxing.
Travelling on my own, I opted for dine in room service. The grill option was great salmon with glaze and steamed green beans and salad. Delicious.
The breakfast inc in room was a great choice of everything you could think of, along with options of buffet cooked, or made to order eggs, omelets, pancakes.
Just a quick taxi ride up to university of new South wales, and a nice walk back via Coogee bay road.
Recommend it to single travellers, and would happily come back with my family

Great view from the pool area. No steps into pool and with bad knees could not use the pool as only a ladder to get out. Wish they had a outdoor whirlpool spa. They only have a cold water spa.

nice location but a few negatives

February 24, 2015

This hotel is in a fantastic location on Coogee Beach and is surrounded by seemingly endless cafes and restaurants and views.

However my room was far too hot to sleep with the supplied doona (duvet for poms) and while I like to sleep covered there was no lighter alternative. Consequently I was exhausted from lack of sleep after three nights, even with the A/C on the minimum setting.

I do sneeze and sniffle a bit and always find the complimentary tissues in hotel rooms a blessing. This time unfortunately the tissue box was supplied in its nice casing, but was empty and stayed that way the whole time. Each day I expected a new one but none arrived.

I really like my tea. Black tea with just a little milk. Imagine my horror to find that the tea supplies in the room included every conceivable novelty tea but no standard black tea such as English Breakfast. Shock and horror. Peppermint and Rosehip simply won't do!

The bathroom was a little dated and the chips and imperfections in the bathtub were a little off-putting.

On my second day when traversing the narrow corridor I had to dodge and step around food trays and loose plates and empty beer bottles outside rooms with half eaten meals and dirty plates. There were at least 6 sites in the corridor. These remained for nearly 24 hours before they were finally cleared away. I wondered if they would be there all weekend. That same day, my room, which was vacated around 9.00 am was not cleaned until almost evening. I made several trips back to the room during the day to find it still hadn't been made up.

I tried to intercept some of the domestic staff in the corridor to ask for tissues and normal tea bags but alack found their trolleys scattered around the hallways but ne'er a soul attached to them.

The location is great. The hotel service needs work.
