Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Wouldn't stay here again Horribly disappointed by this hotel. I've stayed in many HIE hotels, and this one was far inferior. In particular, the staff were dreadful. They ran out of everything at breakfast, and no one was eager to replenish things. I even overhead the staff griping that customers were complaining. We're complaining because you aren't doing a good job; stop talking and fix it so that we'll stop complaining. It is that simple. The hotel was at probably half capacity our first night, but even though we're rewards members, we got the terrible room right next to the elevator and ice machine. These didn't bode well for getting a restful night's sleep. Then, on day two, they were packed and ran out of towels. We had zero towels in our room because the staff took the dirty ones and never gave us any new ones. After I got snippy with the front desk clerk, he eventually found 3 towels for us, thank goodness. The room was cramped and the outlets didn't work. The sheets were nice enough, and the bed was so-so. We saw that they are building a new HIE right by the river. I sure hope that one gets better staff. I wouldn't stay at this location again. December 12, 2014

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Aloof Staff/Spotty WIFI Holiday Inn Express as a rule is a pretty consistent experience as far as amenities and cost go. The only real difference is in the staff. Having looked at other downtown Chattanooga hotels and seeing a parking fee, I was surprised to see this hotel had none. Wasn't the reason I selected this one, but was something I noticed. When we were checking in, the young man at the front desk put a paper in front of me saying it said I agreed to the rate and the $3 parking fee. I was surprised and mentioned that I didn't see the parking fee mentioned on the website. His response was, "Yeah, there are a lot of things that aren't on the website." Just seemed an uncaring attitude from a staff person. And especially glaring after the wonderful desk person we encountered in Orange City, FL just a couple nights before. Got to the room and logged into the WIFI. Lost the connection after a few seconds. Tried a few times that night and the next morning. Never did get reconnected. I had been using the WIFI and several hotels throughout the week before. This was the only time I had an issue. Next time in Chattanooga, we'll stay somewhere else. November 20, 2014
