I stayed at this hotel in August 2014, and can honestly say that this is one of the worst places I have stayed in on all my travels. We came at around 6pm to the hotel and while my room was apparently ready, the cleaning service were still working on other rooms. That night, my wife and I saw a huge bug, which looked like a cockroach. We called the front desk, and they offered to move us to another room, but we had a baby sleeping, so decided to stay. I then woke at 5am, and saw two more bugs in the bathroom, and as time went buy, more and more appeared. When we looked at the floor in the morning, we saw additional dead bugs. In the hallway outside the room, I also saw a bug near the ice machine on the third floor.
The front desk told me on two occasions that this does not happen at the hotel, but looking at some recent reviews, it appears that is not the case. Moreover, since we saw a dead bug, it gives the impression that it died during the night, therefore I wonder if some chemical has already been put in the room.
The hotel offered to refund my points along with some additional points. However, looking at my points, it appears these additional points were not added.
I did take some photos of the bugs.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by 47steve Busy weekend staffing
We stayed in Exmore Friday August 29 passing through for one night. We stay here 3 to 6 times a year and are very happy with the hotel. However, this was Labor Day weekend and the hotel was very busy and more full than we have ever seen it. Everything was fine but as you can imagine breakfast was very busy. There was only one girl working the breakfast. Food, like bacon, eggs and pancake mix were running out plus utensils. I waited for eggs which was ok but when they came out they were barely warm, almost cold. The girl working was doing her best, working hard to accommodate all the requests plus trying to stay up with the food selection and maintaining a friendly positive attitude. In my view it was simply a case of not having enough help. I only saw the girl working the breakfast area and the girl on the front desk, who was also busy. They had to know it would be busy. I made my reservation the evening before and got one of the last rooms. It would seem that they did not properly staff for the number of guests. Regardless, we will be back.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 rude, dirty, and still hungry
I am a platinum member and stay at a lot of HIE. The staff was very rude on arrival. She was out front smoking and asked me if I was checking in. I said yes and she said go inside and she would be in upon finishing her cigarette. Was never acknowledged as a platinum member. The room was very dirty and had a few bugs in it. The breakfast the next morning was a nightmare. People waited a long time for the staff to put more food out. I said something St the front desk and they said it was busy time and that is how it is. I can't believe I spent money at this place.

My family have chosen this hotel to spend couple of nights to visit Virginia Beach, Silver Beach and Ocean City. Our reservation was for suite room, but when we checked in we found that the hotel received the reservation from Inter-continental in two separate reservations the first night was for a regular room and the other night for suite. My family was utterly disappointed. The front desk employee Brittney handled the issue in a very professional way. Due to the lack of suite availability she provided us with two rolling beds. She put a lot of efforts to make us happy one. At the end our stay was truly enjoyable. The staff in general is very welcoming and they listen to their customers requests. The hotel in general is quite due to its location and relatively clean, but the carpet needs to be changed. Furthermore, the complementary breakfast is reasonable, but there may not be enough variety if you are dieting.
