Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Not many hotels in town There are not many hotels in Houghton Michigan. The air conditioner in our room did not keep the room cool. The answer at the front desk was that it automatically turned off when the temperature gets into the 60’s, it was in the upper 80’s during our stay. One of the oddest item encountered was as posted sign that states you will be fined $100 for a health code violation if you are “caught” with a beverage in the work-out room. I have never seen such a sign in any HI hotel in the USA, Canada or Europe. They also asked for information on the check-in form that is in my HI Priority Club Profile. They are taking advantage of their location as there are not many hotels in the Houghton area. August 1, 2015

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very clean very nice employes the room was spacious and clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, the pool area was clean, breakfast was fresh and hot every morning and the breakfast area was very clean. could not have been a better stay. and we were at this hotel for 8 days, 6 of us in a suite. a very good time was had by all of us. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Hair continuously left in bathroom. Day 1 Upon checking in late Sunday evening after an eight hour drive I immediately unpacked, set up my electronics, and then went for a shower. As I looked up from spreading out the bath mat I was greeted with several long strands of dark hair, think shoulder length on an adult, both on the wall of the shower and most easily seen in the base of the tub. At this point the time was near 11PM and I did not want to repack and move rooms. I simply rinsed the hair to the drain that was in the bottom of the tub with the mindset that I would let a staff member know in the morning and when I returned the next day that the bathroom would be clean. The next morning I explained what I had found in my bathroom and I asked the front desk associate to have the housekeeper clean the bathroom as if it were a check out rather than a stay over, so that I would get more than just new towels. No apology from the front desk associate about the oversight in my bathroom, but I at least did not receive any resistance from my request. I left feeling confident that I would return to a bathroom in the standard that is expected. I was sadly mistaken. Day 2 When I arrived later that evening I found that the same hair was still on the walls in my bathroom. I opted to email the hotel rather than talk to a front desk associate again, in case there was an issue with the communication of my request previously. Ten hours after I emailed the hotel, informing the recipient of what had happened and that it had not been resolved yet, I received a response - from Carla Ann Beck the General Manager. Still no apology about the oversight on behalf of her staff, I was assured that the "Executive Head Housekeeper" would be informed and that if the issue was still not resolved to reach back out to her. I responded 16 minutes after receiving the response from Carla Ann Beck informing her that it was not resolved. And then nothing. No follow up. Day 3 No response. No removal of the hair that was on the walls in the shower. Day 4. No response. Whoever cleaned my room this day rinsed down the walls, and left the hair clearly and easily seen in the bottom of the tub. The housekeepers at the Holiday Inn leave generic hand written "Enjoy your stay! :) " notes each day. From this I know that Jess and Sylvia were my housekeepers at least on days 3 and 4.
