I wish i would have written down the name of the gentlemens that was working the front counter but he was very friendly and talkative. I travel a lot so its nice to have some conversation other than usual when checking in.
Location is great, room was as to be expected. I will stay here again with out a doubt.

In early February 2014 we spent three nights in the Holiday Inn Express in Matthews, NC. The facility seems fairly new, is clean, and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. We chose this hotel because of its location near family and because the AAA tour book showed that it had refrigerators, as did some pictures on its web site. On check-in we found that the room did not have a refrigerator. When I asked about this at the front desk, they explained that some rooms had them and others did not. However, they quickly volunteered to provide a portable unit, which was soon installed in our room. Overall, the room and bath were fine. The housekeeping service was not intrusive and very thorough. Breakfast was provided each morning and was mostly standard fare for hotels. All items were arrayed on one continuous counter top which made available work space non-existent.
There are two features of which all potential customers should be aware. First, located somewhere near the hotel is a rock quarry which operates 24/7. This operation produces a somewhat low whining sound that continually pulses. It can be annoying when trying to sleep. Secondly, every evening we had noise that appeared to come from the room above. Intermittently, it sounded like an elephant trying to tap dance. The noise would start and stop most of the evening but, fortunately, ceased by 10:00 or 10:30 each night so sleeping was not a problem from that source. The building could obviously benefit from improved sound proofing.

I wanted to commend Barbara on her excellent customer care. I was making arrangements for my elderly parents and she answered every question I had, and ensured the check-in process went smoothly. I also watched her interact with other guests and she always had a smile on her face.
My parents liked the hotel and staff so much they decided to extend their stay! Again- Barbara and Shivonne ensured that there were no issues and my parents were able to stay in the same room.

My stay was excellent.. This hotel has friendly staff, a very clean hotel, nice rooms, great food, and I will stay at this hotel a million times more.

We did not get to check in until about 10:30pm - which had nothing to do with the hotel. The problem was that we get in that late to find that the bed FULL of hair! It was all over the pillows in the sheets, etc.. It was disgusting. We went to the front desk and the man there was very apologetic and seemed sincere and said he would be sure to tell the Houskeeping staff. The bed had been made up nice and neat but obviously no one bothered to change the sheets! So it was very irritating to get in at that time and then have to go change our own sheets and make the bed! Also the pillows are pathetic! They are so thin and flimsy it was quite sad. The breakfast area was dirty and not well taken care of. The tables were not being cleaned off and the carpet was very dirty like it had not been steam cleaned in years there so many stains in it. The biscuits were literally hard as a rock. The entire stay was very disappointing and I was glad I had used points for the stay instead of cash - but then it was so bad I felt I wasted my points too! Also we expected to see a microwave and fridge but had none. There were also hairs on the towels.

We had a wonderful stay during Christmas. The property was convenient for visiting our family and for nearby restaurants. We enjoyed the indoor pool. Other hotels we looked at in the area had outdoor pools. The staff were very courteous and accommodating. They even helped get Santa's gifts to our son, who was uncertain about traveling during the holidays and whether Santa would find him. The breakfasts were as good or better than similar hotels we've stayed at in recent years. The pancake machine was a hit with our son.

Car was broken in to and items stolen overnight. Not managements fault, just a sign of the times I suppose. Take your valuables inside.
Other than that, great property.
