I had a lot to like about my 3-day stay at this property. The little bit extra I paid per night was worth it because the quiet comfort enabled me to actually relax on the mornings when my work day started later. Many hotels in Merced seem to be a stone's throw from the highway. This one is set back a couple blocks and the windows are of high enough quality to block out almost all traffic noise. The mattress was newer and featured pillows of varying firmness (Hooray! Why can't all hotels offer firm AND soft pillows?) Pleasant, helpful staff, too. My only negative is that the bathroom smelled a bit mildewy. I believe this is due to a (really lame) building code stating that bathroom doors must shut automatically. I really don't see the point of such a law. For much of my stay I kept the bathroom door propped open. It seems the caulking around the tub in this room (#336) just needs some bleach to get rid of the odor which wouldn't have developed in the first place if the bathroom door stayed open naturally.

Spring break to Yosemite and stop here for Friday nite.
Staff was great. They were prepared and greeted us warmly. Very fast checkin.
Nice room. Got the suite, so had a King size bed as requested and a sofa and coffee table and fridge. Very clean room. Also, got a bag of goodies for being a elite platinum member. Nice bonus.
Things not so well.
It was a very busy weekend, so breakfast time overwhelmed the staff. They have problem keeping the place clean and the food in stock as any new food items were quickly taken. It does not help that the pancake machine broke, so only bread, pastries, eggs, sausage, cereal, etc.
Pool was dirty, but probably due to being outdoors and easy for items to get blown into the pool. So, we had to pass on the pool.
Otherwise, the place is great. Looks very new and clean. Bed is comfortable and quiet. Employees are friendly.

I want to thank you all at the Holiday Inn Express for including us into your family. Our company stay out of town a lot. and it a breath of fresh air to see that you and your staff see's that it is still a person to person business. Thank you for being there for us.

I stay in hotels a lot, at least 2 weeks out of every month and this was hands down the noisiest room I have ever been in.

Room key did not always open door on first try. Had to repeatedly do it.
My room was not made up after my first nights stay. First time that has happened to me ever.
Hot tub not working...was looking forward to it after a days' work.
Front desk staff was ok but not what I've experienced at other Holiday Inn Express's. The friendliness was not quite up to par.
As priority club member, no newspaper under my door.

Several of my family members stayed at this hotel and absolutely had a great time. The rooms and linens were so clean and fresh. Breakfast variety was good and pesonnel were present for any assistance. Excercise room was clean and available when needed. The staff is professional, friendly and very helpful. Best of all, it is a safe and secure environment.

Friendly staff, nice room -- but what's up with those bathroom doors that won't stay open? They automatically close no matter what -- highly annoying! I propped mine open with a piece of furniture or a trash can.
Outside of that, no complaints -- but that's a big annoyance for an otherwise nice property.
