An embarrassment to the IHG brand

Everything started well enough, but unfortunately didn't stay that way.

The hotel looked good when I pulled up, and the person at the front desk (whose name I wish I could remember because they deserve to be acknowledged for a job well done) made checking in quick and pleasant. Then I got to the room.

I wonder if it was the last room on the list for housekeeping and they rushed through without any thought, because it was an embarrassment to the IHG brand. I had to go down to the front desk to get some shampoo, because for some reason there were three bottles of lotion and one bottle of conditioner. That same awesome person at the front desk quickly rectified that for me, but it still happened. It happened in addition to the well stocked coffee/tea station in the room, unless you count the lack of cups to make it in. As this is a Holiday Inn Express I just took some cups from the breakfast area, but why provide coffee and tea in the room if you're not going to provide cups?It also happened in addition to the lack of clean glasses in the room. There was a dirty glass on the floor between the bed and night stand, on the carpet that looked like it needed some quality time with a vacuum cleaner, so technically there at least was a glass in the room, just not one I'd be inclined to use. I'll give the benefit of the doubt that the burned out light bulb in the bathroom over the sink just happened when I turned it on and nobody had a chance to find it yet, but given the rest of the room I feel I'm being too generous.

Except for the lack of fresh fruit options and broken pancake machine, the breakfast hit the spot and was inline with what I expected. The attendant maintaining the breakfast spread was very attentive and diligent and did a great job keeping the food flowing. Much appreciated!

And just when I thought things were finally starting to look up, I went to check out. There was no option to check out in the mobile app for this property, so I went to the front desk... and waited... and waited. But I didn't wait because nobody was there. Quite the opposite in fact! There was a staff member talking to people in the back room who turned to me, made eye contact, and then turned back to continue talking. About a minute or two later they finally informed the people in the pack that there was someone at the desk. Why was I made to wait? Apparently so I could have insult added to injury, because the person who came out walked over to me, took my key cards, and walked away without so much as a word.

I understand little blips happen from time to time. I've stayed at many IHG hotels and any one of those in room oversights wouldn't have been a big deal to me. But when you accumulate a pile like that and finish it off with a rude checkout like I'm inconveniencing the people I'm paying to be there, I know with all the other IHG properties in the Buffalo area I will not be returning to this one.

This property is convenient to Walden Galleria Mall, Target, Burlington Coat Factory, Walmart Super Center and Starbucks.

All your shopping needs nearby and easy to get back to hotel.
Plus, Chick Fillet just opened and located in front of this property.

Stayed at this hotel for a girls getaway weekend. Upon arrival received a warm welcome from staff, cookies and a welcome bag containing bottled water and snacks. Great location for shopping and restaurants

Great stay!

I had to stay unexpectedly overnight for business. The hotel was very accommodating, and the front desk staff was very helpful! My room was very comfortable, and I was able to relax easily to get the rest I needed. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in or around Cheektowaga!

Not clean but you get what you pay for

I've stayed here before. This location has gone downhill and I've stayed at many. Got worried based on other reviews leading up to my stay but gave hotel benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately stain in toilet, hair in shower and washroom floor and a very suspect white stain on the couch was their idea of cleaning. Also saw what appeared to be a centipede in the washroom. I basically scrubbed myself really well when I came home and left my duffel bag outside to avoid bringing any pests.

Pool had no towels but front staff brought more promptly. Deck area looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time more specifically the cushions in the deck area. Pool appeared to have some debris in it (label and string from someones clothing).

To give credit where it's due breakfast was good in terms of quality and well stocked. Staff were good at keeping it clean.

Front counter staff were hit and miss. They range from attentive to just downright rude (basically the customers presence was an inconvenience).

I got flack from my wife for bringing her to such a unclean hotel. Assured her it wasn't like this when I came last time several years ago but at her recommendation maybe I'll stay somewhere where I can expect better standards.

Unfortunately this reflects on the brand overall and while I may continue to stay in other brands under the umbrella of IHG but this will definitely be the last H-Inn stay for me.

Disappointed

As I normally try to stay exclusively at IHG properties this one was disappointing. As a relatively new HI Express this was not a well kept property. The lobby was very nice. The carpets on the third floor were awful. Bleach stains, ground in dirt that looks like its been there since the beginning of time.

My room wasn’t so bad, but the bathroom left a lot to be desired. Things (not sure what) were stuck and dried to the walls with maybe no attempt to clean them.

The biggest problem I had is that they never attempted to clean my room. I was there for two nights. When I returned to my room on Sunday they never touched my room. When I left in the morning the cleaning cart was right next door. The cleaning girls were obviously too lazy to get to my room. As a matter of fact I probably should have known of this laziness because just after I left my room Sunday morning I had to return to retrieve something I forgot. When I walked down the hallway the cleaning person saw me coming down the hallway and she just dropped her vacuum across the hallway in front of the cleaning cart so I could not walk around it but had to step over it. Even though I’m fully capable of doing that, I shouldn’t have to.

Just lazy.

I will say that the young lady at the front desk was very apologetic and took care of getting me more towels because of the laziness of the cleaning people. That still doesn’t make up for the issues with this HI Express.

I stay at a few IHG properties in the Buffalo area. Thought I’d try this one. I’ll never go there again. As I also recommend hotels in the area and have recommended this one. Never again.
