LOCAL AREA

Marine aquarium, fish hatchery and education center located on 75 acres in Lake Jackson, Texas. It is operated by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The largest redfish hatchery in the world, 36 one-acre fish culture ponds, an outdoor wetland exhibit and a youth fishing pond.

The exhibits at the Museum are about the history of the area of Brazoria County known as Lake Jackson. Our exhibits currently concentrate on 6 major areas; the Karankawa Indians, the Plantation era, the founding of modern Lake Jackson, Life in Lake Jackson, the Windecker Eagle (the first composite aircraft), and information about local Petrochemical Industries.

The mission of the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory is to protect the birds and their habitats around the Gulf of Mexico and beyond. We have become recognized as an innovative organization, which has designed and conducted a significant number of large conservation projects, including migration studies, habitat enhancement, land acquisition, regional habitat mapping, and others.
