A Historical Tapestry of Culture and Community

Astoria has a rich history that dates back to the early 19th century. Originally settled by Dutch farmers, it was named after John Jacob Astor, one of America's first millionaires, who established a trading post in the area in the 1800s. The neighborhood grew rapidly with the arrival of the Long Island Rail Road in the 1850s, attracting a diverse population of immigrants, particularly from Greece and Italy. This cultural melting pot has shaped Astoria's identity, making it known for its eclectic cuisine and vibrant arts scene.
