Aligned to our purpose of True Hospitality for Good is our Journey to Tomorrow responsible business plan. We’re making important strides in creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive, supporting our communities and protecting the world around us. We’re proud of the progress we’re making, including being recognised as one of the world’s top companies to work for women, our teams volunteering thousands of hours of their time within their communities, and the action we’re taking to reduce carbon emissions per occupied room.
To improve efficiency across the IHG hotel estate, every hotel is given access to the IHG Green Engage™ system – an online environmental management platform that provides hotel teams with green solutions, charts their progress, and measures and reports their energy, water and waste data. As an IHG Hotel, we proudly use this tool to support our progress against IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow commitments.
At voco® Grand Central Glasgow, we’re proud to be certified by Green Key - a “standard of excellence” ecolabel in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry.
Our Conscious Connections package combines sustainability with top-tier meeting facilities. For every delegate, we plant a tree in the Scottish Highlands and provide a Tree of Life Donation Certificate to display your eco-friendly efforts.
The luxurious filling for our duvets and pillows is made from 100% recycled materials, and has GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified. Our supplier, Fine Bedding Company, estimates that the filling for a 10.5 tog king duvet and four standard pillows is the equivalent of 230 recycled 0.5l PET bottles.
The plant-based, vegan-friendly ingredients of our refillable bathroom amenities are sourced to ensure that they do not negatively impact their ecosystem; and the refillable bottles help reduce plastic waste. We’ve also installed aerated shower heads in every guest room, reducing water usage by mixing it with air. An equivalent, same-sized but non-aerated shower head uses 30-50% more water per minute, according to manufacturer tests.
The water is our meeting areas and guest rooms is filtered and served in refillable glass bottles, which saves an estimated 300+ plastic bottles per hotel room per annum (based on average consumption and 80% occupancy).
