I picked up a cheap rate in the Winter Sale, and was absolutely delighted with the stay.
Staff go out of their way to ensure you have a comfortable and enjoyable stay, some of them really going out of their way to ensure excellent service.
It happens very rarely, but this hotel made me feel really valued as a customer - in fact, I kept on wondering if perhaps an important person with my name was also staying at the same time, and they'd mistaken me for him!
The hotel itself is a little bit tired in places, and the internet a bit patchy in the room, but the excellent service and huge room, with sea view and balcony, more than made up for this.

Nice big rooms. We got 2x double rooms with adjoining internal doors (even though when I asked at the desk I was told it was not possible - we were able to connect the rooms by opening the doors ourselves).
Whilst everything has been modernised, the bathroom suites are very old and tired and really detract from the rest of the refurb. Why bother making the rooms so modern and then have dirty old bathrooms. Corridor had that new carpet smell which bordered on pungent - but I accept that can't really be helped and will go in time.
Internet access, whilst easy to connect, feels like the first dial up connection being shared by all guests - it would take an age just to open a simple site. Not fit for purpose.
Watch out for the flexible rates on the website - you're quoted a slightly higher rate when booking which gives you the option to cancel up to a time on the day (needed for us as my wife was heavily pregnant). On checking in, the price had risen astronomically. Luckily I had the booking email to hand and the staff eventually modified the rate to honour the price quoted when we booked. Bearing in mind the hotel was practically empty, not sure what they were trying to pull! Make sure you take evidence of agreed price with you to avoid being ripped off. Have to say though, the staff were very attentive and sorted the issue out quick. Not sure how it would have gone had I not had the evidence from the email though!

Considering that a lot of refurbishment that included building work on the roof surfaces outside the bedrooms the staff coped very well to ensure minimum disturbance to the comfort of the guests.
The front house/reception manager, in addition to being efficient took time to answer the number of questions we had in a helpful and friendly manner.
