Sunrise over Edinburgh

Sunrise Over The City

Start your day the best way: coffee and breakfast in the iconic InterContinental© lounge. Now you're ready to seize the morning and step out into Edinburgh's world-famous streets. Take a short walk to Holyrood Park, where you'll find Arthur's Seat. It's a defining feature of the city skyline, mesmerising visitors who are new to the city. The climb to the top takes around 45 minutes, and is worth every second for the astonishing views.

A Very Royal Mile

Once you reach the bottom, wander around the edge of Holyrood Palace until you reach the end of the Royal Mile – so named for its link between the palace and Edinburgh Castle. This renowned street is peppered with historic attractions, from St Giles Cathedral and Mary King’s Close to John Knox House and Gladstone’s Land. Walk your way up and you’ll find some of Edinburgh’s most charming streets, including Cockburn (pronounced ‘co-burn’) Street, and Victoria Street.

For lunch, choose from several bars and cafés on the Royal Mile, or walk a little further down to the Grassmarket where you’ll find a great selection of pubs serving up classic Scottish fare. The Grassmarket is also home to the much-loved Mary’s Milk Bar – a must for lovers of unusual gelato flavours.

Castle in Edinburgh Scotland

The Jewel In The Crown

Spend the afternoon at Edinburgh Castle, where you can take a close look at the Honours (Crown Jewels) of Scotland, the Stone of Destiny, and the famous 15th-century gun – Mons Meg. Make it to the castle by 1pm to witness the firing of the One O’Clock Gun. Later, enjoy a wee dram at The Devil’s Advocate before heading back to the hotel for a well-deserved rest and dinner at Le Petit Beefbar.

Day Two: Discover The New Town

A New Day

Wake up early to take in a wondrous sunrise from the top of Calton Hill - the steps to the top take around five minutes to climb. Marvel at the sweeping views and the collection of 19th-century monuments that sit atop the hill before heading back to the hotel for breakfast. Then, pick up a takeaway coffee from Burr & Co. before stepping back outside.

Inspired Wanders

Today’s walk takes you through the Canonmills neighbourhood to the Royal Botanic Gardens. These atmospheric gardens date back 350 years, and include the Chinese Hillside, Rock Garden, and Alpine House.

Exit the gardens through the East Gate and cross over to Inverleith Park for a spectacular view of Edinburgh Castle. A popular spot with locals, the park will lead you through to the neighbourhood of Stockbridge. Work your way up its main street, Raeburn Place, and stop for lunch in one of the many eateries. We recommend Smith & Gertude for a glass of natural wine and a tempting charcuterie board. If you’re a fan of superb cheeses, be sure to stop by the famous IJ Mellis shop. And treat yourself to something from Jorum – purveyors of modern, poetic fragrances inspired by nature.

A City Full Of Stars

From Stockbridge, you can take the 36 bus or a 10-minute taxi to The Shore in Leith. This area boasts the highest concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants outside of London. If you’ve got time, swap the transport there for a picturesque walk along the Water of Leith. It’ll take you around 40 minutes.

If you’d rather have dinner closer to the hotel, try Noto or Tipo for premium snacks and small plates. Or Baba – a Mezze, charcoal grill and cocktail bar. Bramble and Panda & Sons are also great options for cocktails.

Remember, our Front of House team can help with reservations.
