PROPERTY FEATURES

The Premises

As you pull off the Montauk Highway, the first thing you’ll notice about Hero Beach Club is a bright yellow smiley face painted on its white clapboard exterior. And when you see the Tulum-inspired interiors, sprawling lawn, tempting pool terrace and the surf just steps away, we’re certain a smile will be painted on your face, too. This cheerful and frill-free hotel makes the perfect Hamptons home base, whether your plan is to hang ten, hike in the nearby nature reserve or do some serious lobster-roll reconnaissance. Wholesome beach fun of the bucket, spade and s’mores variety is back in town.

Unforgettable Features

Other than a light breakfast of bagels and coffee on summer weekends – and the occasional s’mores night – there are no meals served at the hotel. Venture out and explore the Hamptons’ diverse dining scene – from fresh produce stands to white-tablecloth affairs, you’ll be spoiled for choice (and practically guaranteed to rub elbows with a celebrity or two).

Liquid Bliss

You'll find beer and wine on tap in the lobby from noon to 11pm.

Experience the Extraordinary

You’re right on Umbrella Beach, a picturesque and popular stretch of public shore that’s safe for swimming. When you’ve built up an appetite, bagsy one of the barbecues on the hotel’s back lawn – make new friends by offering around your expertly chargrilled burgers and ’dogs. After a shady siesta in a cabana by the pool, join an alfresco yoga or Pilates class on the grass (the hotels offers them a few times a week). If you’re geed up for adventure, just talk to the hotel staff – they can recommend and organise all manner of Montauk activities with their local partners: hiking at Montauk Point (where you can walk to the Montauk Lighthouse, commissioned by George Washington in 1792), surf lessons, horse-riding, tours and tastings at local vineyards or rounds of golf at Montauk Downs.

Transportation

Hero Beach Club is in Montauk, the town at the very tip of Long Island’s south fork. The white-washed clapboard building, a former roadside motel built in the 1950s, lies right behind the waving grasses of the dunes, just a few steps from the sand.

Planes

Long-haul flights generally touch down at New York’s John F Kennedy airport, the closest international hub to the hotel. It’s about two hours away by car, though it can take (quite a lot) longer on summer weekends.

Trains

It’s just over three hours by Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) from NYC’s Penn Station to Montauk. From there, it’s a five-minute drive to the hotel.

Automobiles

If you plan on exploring the rest of the Hamptons, a car will come in handy – you’ll get the best rate if you rent one at the airport. Bus options along the Long Island Expressway include the Hampton Luxury Liner and the Hampton Jitney.
