Over 750 million people in the world are illiterate resulting in significant social, economic and health implications. We are partnering with the World Literacy Foundation to support them in their mission to eradicate illiteracy by 2040, believing that every person should have the opportunity to learn to read and write. Not only does this provide a crucial step in poverty alleviation, but empowers people to reach their full potential, while enabling them to experience the joy of stories.
Pop-up libraries will be set up in Lisbon, Kuwait City, and Brisbane. World Literacy Foundation’s pop-up libraries supply free resources to children and parents to support and promote literacy development.
As part of the UK Reads and USA Reads programs, our donations will help support a school in Liverpool and a hospital in Washington, DC with projects aimed at helping children to develop literacy skills.
A portion of our donation will support the World Literacy Foundation’s Global Program Aprende Leyendo, focused on helping children living in disadvantaged rural communities in Colombia with developing literacy skills.
Through community-based charitable partnerships, our hotels and colleagues make positive impacts for the planet, the people, in the places they call home.
