Hotel room was good although the hallway can be a bit noisy from loud people, not the hotels fault. However, since there are doors that connect other rooms to each other, individuals in other rooms can be noisy. Overall hotel is nice. Mahogany bar and restaurant are excellent. I would stay again. Only con is that the Internet is expensive, $9.95 a night.

Great Service; Terrible Facility

The hotel is sadly falling apart. The hospitality crew were outstanding. From the front desk, to the wait staff, to the bar staff, to the baristas, all of them were top notch and more than pleasant to encounter. The behind the scenes aspect of the facility are sad. Housekeeping either missed the room I was originally assigned or just did a terrible job cleaning it. There was a dirty rag in the shower that had makeup on it. There was ruffles in the pillow where it looked like someone laid their head. Worst of all there was dried blood on the pillow. The bed was made and the room relatively clean, which to me is even more suspicious. All of this was noticed immediately by myself and I called the front desk. They immediately sent someone up with keys for a new room. Great! The mini fridge was interesting to say the least. I kept bottled water and bottled soda in the fridge on the very bottom. Water on the right, soda on the left literally touching the water. The water was slightly chilled, while the soda was frozen?! I counted my blessings that the room was clean, so I did not complain. Another person in my group had a rough night sleeping the first night we were there, due to a clunking noise coming from the air conditioning unit. The front desk was notified and sent maintenance up relatively quickly. Maintenance was very stand offish and advised us that "the sound is water running, that's what water does, it runs, 24/7." Water does not sound like a caged animal trying to escape its imminent death!!! They claimed they had fixed the problem and left. Of course, as soon as the door closed behind them, Godzilla reared his ugly head back in the air unit. They ended up coming back and just shutting it off for the remainder of our stay. Ironically enough we overheard on their radio that the room directly above her room was having similar issues. That no big deal water running sure was ruining their day as well! We were there for a conference and heard multiple times about the dissatisfaction with the hotels upkeep. From flickering bulbs outside the elevators (I actually pulled the bulb to keep from having a seizure), to phones and hairdryers falling off of the walls, to the crime scene that was my first assigned room, this hotel was quite the experience. The beds were not comfy and the pillows were like sleeping with a garbage bag full of dirty clothes. The stellar service from the front desk, wait staff, bar tenders, and baristas really saved this hotel from being a complete nightmare. A focus on TLC for maintenance and housekeeping could turn this place around.

Crowne Plaza - Springfield

The Springfield Crowne Plaza is a fairly elegant hotel, at least for the central Illinois area. It has it's pros and cons:

Pro - cleanliness; elegance, on-site restaurant and bar (unknown quality#; large and well appointed rooms; location

Negative - cool and slow reception at the front desk; pay breakfast; plastic sheets and room noise from ??; not a low cost hotel for Springfield.

The pluses are noted above and as for the negatives. I did not get a good sleep at all. The sheets they use must be the latest and greatest anti-microbial sheets, but whatever the reason they are oil based plastic sheets. In addition, I believe it was our HVAC unit made some sound similar to sucking foam through a pipe mosf of the night #room 605#? There was also a faint beeping sound the entire stay. I didn't hear it initially #old age I guess) but my daughter did. I told her it was the toilet dripping and she said, no it's not the toilet. I solved the toilet dripping problem by closing the door. We left to eat. It wasn't until later when I was wanting to go to sleep that I could hear the beep. An alarm going off somewhere and it didn't sound like a room alarm clock. Anyway, I would have requested another room, but at midnight, a move would have kept me up just as long.
