The State Museum offers expansive collections interpreting the state's fascinating heritage. With exhibits on four floors examining the dawn of geoligical time, the Native American experience, the colonist and Revolutionary eras, a pivotal American Civil War battle and the commonwealth's vast industrial age, The State Museum demonstrates that Pennsylvania's story is America's story.

The National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, PA is the first museum in the world that portrays the entire story of the American Civil War. It presents the history of the war from military and civilian perspectives without bias to either Union or Confederate causes.

City Island is downtown Harrisburg's major city park. It is home to the Harrisburg Senators minor league baseball team, as well as the minor league soccer team. Besides hosting the two minor league teams, City Island also has batting cages, an arcade, miniature golf, Susquehanna Outfitters to rent kayaks, canoes and bikes, and river access. It is also a local running and bike path as the loop around the northern part of the island is almost a mile long.
