However, the Hetch Hetchy Entrance Station is open only during daylight hours (approx.) and some roads are closed due to snow from around November through May or June.

Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park is located in the Sierra Nevada foothills eight miles east of Jackson. The park nestles in a little valley 2,400 feet above sea level with open meadows and large valley oaks that once provided the native Americans of this area with an ample supply of acorns. The park was created in 1968 and preserves a great outcropping of marbleized limestone with some 1,185 mortar holes -- the largest collection of bedrock mortars in North America.

Black Chasm Cavern was designated a National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service in 1976 after being recommended by local members of the National Speleological Society, and as such is considered a "nationally significant natural area.”

Camanche is the perfect place to bring or store your boat, year round. Also popular destination for fans of watersports and fishing. The lower end of the lake, with its wide-open geography, is perfect for personal watercraft, wakeboards, water-skis, and riding personal watercraft. We are a full-body contact lake unless designated otherwise. Camanche is best known for great bass fishing, though it is also a favorite of trout anglers.

Boating, fishing and outdoor recreation. There is NO WATERSKIING OR JET SKIS ALLOWED, the peaceful adventure on the 400-acre, 13 1/2 miles of beautiful Lake Amador shoreline. Full hook-up RV sites and a 150 site campground, with showers and flush toilets, are nestled along the shoreline of Lake Amador available year round with reservations or just show up, we always have room! (except maybe holidays!). Catch yourself an adventure so close to home you'll be hooked for life!

Fishing, boating, picnic and outdoor activity The entire Pardee Lake Recreation Area is noted for its cleanliness and top notch maintenance. Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range of Northern California, Pardee Lake is among one of the most beautiful settings the Mother Lode landscape has to offer and is an easy drive from valley and bay area locations. The perfect outing for that day or weekend of picnicking, camping, or just fun relaxing time for the entire family.

Lower Bear River Reservoir is a largest lake of 727 surface acres with a shoreline of about 9 miles. Outdoor activities inclues fishing, portaging light, flatwater paddle boats, open to all types of water craft and skiing, unimproved ramp is available below Pardoes Point Campground, camping is available at three-single family and one group, concessionaire operated. Normal season is May 1-November 15.

The castle was built between 1890 and 1894. In 1890, the 230 acre parcel of land where the Preston Castle stands was purchased from the Ione Coal & Iron Company for $30 per acre with 100 acres donated. The land was purchased to house the Preston School of Industry, established by the State Legislature as a progressive action toward rehabilitating, rather than simply imprisoning, juvenile offenders. Preservation of the castle means saving a historically significant California landmark.
