The weekend was stormy. It was nice to have a balcony facing the Gulf and being able to hear the crash of the waves. Even though the pool was directly below us and there was quite a bit of partying going on. ( go figure ).

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Bill R Location is the best thing about this hotel.
I requested a room on the third floor or above at the time I made my reservation. I was told by the desk clerk that I would be getting a room on the first or second floor since I was getting a corporate rate . The higher paying customers would be getting the view. My request was made knowing that there would be a larger crowd on a holiday weekend . I knew it would be very noisy and hard to get your rest on the first or second floor due to pool activity . I was right , it was very loud up to 11 pm. I was told a note was made on my reservations but they were unable to grant my request. I wish they would have told me that at the time I made the reservation.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by disappointed220 Balcony overlooks air conditioner units on main building
First, it's not on the beach. You have to cross Seawall Blvd to get to the beach, just like you have to do for all the other hotels in Galveston on Seawall Blvd.
The bed was good, but the room was small for the price. The balcony was unusable. It was extremely small, barely fitting two chairs, and the railing was loose. We were on the forth floor, and our balcony overlooked the air conditioning units on the main (lobby/restuarant/etc) building roof, so instead of hearing ocean sounds, we got to listen to those units running, along with the repairmen banging on them. The heat from the units actually came up to our floor, which drove us inside. You have to watch out for the condensation from the room air conditioner since it just dripped directly on the balcony.
About half of the rooms overlook the main building roof. Also, there was a distinctly awful smell in the parking lot.
When we checked out, I told the front desk staff that I had booked the room directly with the hotel to make sure we had a balcony, since the web site was very vague about what you get. We were not told that we would get to listen to air conditioner units. The response I received was the usual "Sorry to hear that, have a nice day". They did not seem very interested.
As I checked out, I noticed a pad of paper on the reception counter that listed problems reported with about 15 rooms, everything from refrigerators not working, to water on the floor. There was definitely a lot of observable repairs being done all over.
We found another place to stay next time we visit Galveston.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by krystix Service slow front desk unknowledegable
The front desk clerk did not know how to access the gift shop or how to charge items to the room. The food was horrible and service was slow. We ordered a simple breakfast in the hotel restaurant and the order took 45 minutes to arrive and we were the only ones dining there.

We were originally booked at another hotel That turned out to be awful! Thankfully Holiday Inn had a room and it saved our mini-vacation. we only stayed 2 days but from the minute we walked in the staff made us not only feel welcome but made us feel like we were the only guests in hotel! We won't stay anywhere else when we go back to Galveston

The word "Resort" is a stretch for this facility but I would call it a good hotel, even though it was more like a motel experience.
