It is located in the Tianshan Mountains north of Bole City, Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, close to Huocheng County of Ili. It sits on the northern route of the ancient Silk Road, with the G30 Lianhuo Expressway and Guozigou Bridge providing direct access to the lake area.
