This spectacular attraction and educational destination, located on 242 lush acres, features 10-story glass Rainforest and Aquarium Pyramids, Discovery Museum, Colonel paddle-wheeler boat, Palm Beach waterpark, plus RideFilm, MG 3-D and 4-D Special FX theaters. The center of Galveston’s original 19th century commercial district, the 36-block Strand Historic District offers one of the most extensive collections of restored Victorian-style buildings in the U.S. This jewel also features historic properties housing unique shops, cafés, galleries, museums, theaters and restaurants, and is one of the most popular areas for visitors.

Completed in 1895, this stately brick and limestone mansion was home to W.L. Moody, Jr., who established one of the great American financial empires. He later formed the Moody Foundation, dedicated to medical and educational programs, as well as to restoring homes in Galveston. The mansion features original antique furnishings and stunning décor, plus a gift shop. Open daily for tours.

This state-of-the art facility is operated by the Offshore Energy Center (OEC) and gives you a closer look into Houston’s largest industry. Take a self-guided tour through the retired jack-up rig. Three decks feature exhibits on offshore drilling and production, marine transportation, environmental protection, construction and pipelining. Open seasonally.

The newest Schlitterbahn waterpark features more than 32 family-friendly attractions in the summer season, including uphill water coasters, water slides, kids’ playgrounds, whitewater rapids, a wave pool, hot tubs and the Boogie Bahn surf ride. The exclusive “Transportainment” river system makes it the ultimate family destination, and it’s also the world’s first convertible waterpark. Conveniently located 5.4 miles from the resort.

The three-level pavilion overlooks the Port of Galveston and the Houston Ship Channel. Visitors can explore the World War II-era USS Stewart destroyer escort and USS Cavalla submarine. The park also offers a playground, picnic areas, an observation deck and excellent fishing. The tours and fishing admission are purchased separately by cash only, and are very reasonably priced.

Since 1980, Aqua Safari Charters has been specializing in deep sea fishing, bay and jetty fishing and tuna trips. It provides fishing fun for families, friends, out-of-town guests, business clients, organizations and corporate entertainment.

Galveston stages the biggest Mardi Gras celebration in Texas each year for two weeks in February, which began back in 1876. The entrance for this free museum is through Midsummer Books in the Strand Historic District in downtown Galveston. Exhibits include intricate costumes, memorabilia, photographs and models of the eight Galveston Mardi Gras arches designed in 1986 by world-renowned architects.

Featuring waterfront fun and entertainment like no other Gulf Coast destination, the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier features family-oriented attractions including rides, midway games and a wide selection of food venues and retail shops.
