Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos

Just a short walk from InterContinental Crete, visit the Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos which is considered one of the most significant in Crete. The museum houses collections of very important findings from the entire region of eastern Crete that date back to an extensive period from the Neolithic era until the Roman times.

Spinalonga Island

Spinalonga is located in the Gulf of Elounda in north-eastern Crete, a 20-min drive from InterContinental Crete. A small and now abandoned island, home to an imposing Venetian fortress dating back to the 16th century but also the site of Greece’s only leper colony from 1903 to 1957 which gained international recognition through Victoria Hislop’s 2005 novel "The Island" and has since featured prominently on tourist maps as a must-visit destination.

Kritsa Village

Kritsa is one of the most picturesque villages, only a 15-minute drive from InterContinental Crete, which is amphitheatrically built on the slopes of a green hill at an altitude of 375 meters, and is inextricably linked to the famous Cretan diet as a leading producer of the renowned Kritsa olive oil. The olive groves of the region are among the oldest in Crete, situated on the hill of Kritsa and extend from Mirabello Bay to a height of 700 meters.

Ancient City of Lato

Kritsa, Crete 72100

A 20-minute drive from InterContinental Crete, lies the archaeological site of Lato. Built between two hills, in a strategic defensive position overlooking the Mirabello Bay, Lato is considered the most well-preserved settlement of the classical Hellenistic period with its ruins mainly dating from the 4th century BC. Its name derived from Leto (Doric type of Lato), the mother of Apollo and Artemis. Ancient Lato was destroyed about 200 BC.
