Visit the Faqra ruins, just 10 minutes from the Resort. These temples are the most extensive ruins on Mount Lebanon, a maze of limestone formations known as 'ghost houses'.

Early risers can walk to the Natural Bridge, a monolithic bridge carved by wind and water over the millennia. The 34m bridge is so perfect it's hard to believe it was created by nature. Look for fossilized seashells embedded in the surrounding strata, dating back 200 million years.

Tip: Take a boat trip around the Citadel. Byblos is the Greek name for the Phoenician city of Gebal, known by its Arabic name of Jbeil today. This is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, and the archaeological ruins of many civilisations can be found here. Byblos gave its name to the Bible and Bibelot (Trinket) in memory of its ancient miniatures. It is just 49km from Mzaar.

This upmarket casino has three gaming rooms and a large slot-machine area. It also stages live music performances in its two showrooms. There are five restaurants and bars, and in the summer, the outdoor terrace offers magnificent views across the Bay of Jounieh. Tip: A formal dress code must be observed if you want to access the main Baccarat Salle.

Tip: Book a guided boat tour. These amazing limestone caves are about 35km away from the Resort and reached via a scenic coastal road. Millions of years old, the grottoes feature stalactites and stalagmites in incredible sculptural forms. An underground river flows through the lower gallery, and it's possible to take a boat ride in the summer. The upper gallery has one of the biggest crystal stalactites in the world.
