Welcome to the InterContinental Berchtesgaden Resort, located in the Bavarian Alps 1,000 metres above sea level. I am proud to work in this great area and offer a warm welcome to all of our guests.
At a height of 1,000 metres the scenery between Watzmann, Untersberg and Kehlstein, surrounded by Germany's one and only Alpine National Park, is simply impressive. Nesting in the midst of untouched nature the InterContinental Berchtesgaden Resort sits like a horseshoe among lush mountain pastures on the eastern outskirts of Berchtesgaden, just 30 kilometres from Salzburg.
The perfect day starts with the glorious sight of the snow-capped peaks of the Bavarian Alps from your hotel-room window. Greet the morning at Rossfeld Peak, a panoramic spot where you can enjoy croissants and freshly brewed coffee while the guide points out the surrounding mountains. You'll also have the chance to see the last surviving eagles in the area. Come back to the hotel and take in the view from the heated outdoor pool.
You will be intrigued by the rich local traditions of this once-remote corner of south-east Germany, and one of the best ways of experiencing them is with a boat trip over the picturesque Lake Hintersee. Complete your afternoon with a visit to a truly authentic beer garden. The Auzinger offers the best succulent roasted pork with Bavarian dumplings in the whole Berchtesgaden area. After the rich meal, take a walk in the National park, where a ranger can show you the wonderful variety of alpine plants and wildlife.
To finish the day, have a relaxing glass of champagne in our Chimney Lounge. Dine at Michelin-starred restaurant LE CIEL where the Head Sommelier can recommend wines from a collection of 4,000 to team with gourmet French cuisine. Finally, relax in the Rocks American Bar, with one of the most spectacular whisky collections in Germany and legendary cocktails.
The lake is inhabited by a wide range of freshwater fish including salmon, trout and catfish. Lake Königssee's landmark, the chapel of St. Bartholomä, can only be reached by boat. This world-famous church, originally dating back to the 12th cent., lies at the tip of a picturesque peninsula.
School of wood-carving exhibits and art exhibition
Diverse exhibits from Berchtesgaden’s school of wood-carving can be admired during a tour of the hotel. You’re bound to be enchanted by the modern, creative interpretation of this traditional craft. In addition, well-known regional artists present their artworks in alternating exhibitions.
Deep down underneath the `Salzberg´ mountain a secret world awaits your discovery. For many years, only the salt miners in Berchtesgaden were allowed to enter the complex tunnel system. Today, part of the mine – which has been in operation for over 500 years now – is open to all fans of adventure who wish to get to know the place where the famous Bad Reichenhall brand salt originates.
Royal palace Berchtesgaden
Palace Berchtesgaden, after 1810 the summer residence of the Wittelsbach family, was once the center of a small spiritual state of the Augustinian Canons. In the following period, they gained the imperial immediacy and 1559 the status of a prince provost. Until 1803 the monastery was the residence of the rulers.
The house in which Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on January 27, 1756 is now one of the most frequently visited museums in the world. No other place makes the person behind the artist Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his music as palpable as his birthplace in Salzburg.
