GUÍA DEL CONSERJE
BIENVENIDO A Rome
Welcome to InterContinental De La Ville Roma. We are located in the heart of the Eternal City at the top of the Spanish Steps, surrounded by 3,000 years of history. My team and I are here to assist you, and to make your stay a memorable experience.
Rome offers so many possibilities, but why not start with the Vatican City. The faster way to be at the Vatican Museum entrance by 8.45am, when it opens, is by taxi. Please note that entrance for individuals does not start until 10am. The main attractions are the Raphael Rooms, and even more importantly, the Sistine Chapel. Admire Michelangelo's ceiling, one of the most spectacular works of art in the world. If you think you're not having enough, take in the colourful frescoes of the Raphael Rooms and the Borgia Apartments. From there, make your way on foot to Castel Sant' Angelo, a residence used by the Popes in difficult times. Don't miss the wonderful views over Rome or the narrow passageway used by the Popes as an escape route from the Vatican. Next, on to St Peter's Basilica. On Via della Conciliazione, cross St Peter's Square and walk through the imposing Bernini colonnade. Then, if you're game for more, go on to the Papal tombs and the 13th century bronze statue of St Peter, and Michelangelo's most important masterpiece: "La Pietà".
After a short break, take a stroll in the city centre. Going out of the InterContinental De La Ville, turn right along Via Trinità dei Monti to Pincio Hill, where you can enjoy marvellous views over Rome. Go further along Viale Gabriele d'Annunzio to Piazza del Popolo, marked by an obelisk brought by Augustus after he conquered Egypt. Visit the baroque church of Santa Maria del Popolo. Then, shop your way down to the Via del Corso. At Largo Goldoni, turn left on the famous Via Condotti, the most famous avenue for shopping in Rome. Have a drink at the fashionable Antico Caffe Greco, the famous shelter of writers, artists and intellectuals in the 19th century. Continue your shopping in this elegant and incredibly populated area. It is lined with Rome's most fashionable brand boutiques. Stop in Piazza di Spagna and take your time to admire Bernini's "La Barcaccia" fountain. The Spanish Steps should be just in front of you. Either walk up the stairs, lined with beautiful azaleas during Spring, or take the elevator on the left-hand side of the square to Piazza Trinita dei Monti. You have only to walk a few metres to the right and you'll be back at the InterContinental De La Ville.
Rome is even more fascinating during the night: monuments and palaces are always illuminated with lights and shadows that improve their majestic. But starting from the sunset, we suggest to visit our rooftop at the 6th floor just to enjoy the colours of the end of the day, may relaxing with a soft drink. Soon after, why don’t go out and try one of the dozens of restaurants that surround the Hotel and offer the best way to taste roman food? You may have only to choose between the fashionable restaurant of the centre or the more typical “trattorie” of Trastevere. Either way, after dinner there are lot of things to do: parties, live music and celebrations will satisfy any kind of need for the perfect evening.

¿SABÍA QUÉ? ?
The InterContinental De La Ville Roma is located on the West-side of the Pincio Hill of Gardens; these gardens were, in fact, large parks on the outskirts of the city where there was a country villa. Via Sistina, named after Sixtus V, pope from 1585 to 1590, was planned in 1564 when the centre of the city started to shift from Campo de' Fiori to Campo Marzio. Soon other families started buildings homes here and in 1592 the painter and architecht Federico Zuccari built himself the house wich stands opposite to the Hotel. Queen Maria Casimira of Poland lived in this house for fifteen years and became procuress of a monastery that probably stood in the site of the present-day Hotel De La Ville. From about 1818 Via Sistina began to become a popular location for travellers, and finally, in 1925, after a substancial rebuilt by the architect Josef Vago, the Hotel that now host the InterContinental De La Ville was opened.
The Eternal City deserves his best also out of his walls: in few chilometers you will find the zone of Colli Albani where in more than ten little towns lies an undoutb heritage of culture and history like Castel Gandolfo or Villa Aldobrandini.
The elegantly furnished, imposing Teatro dell'Opera is the only theatre in Rome which offers a full season of leading productions. In Summer, opera is performed outdoors in the enchanting Terme di Caracalla or in the Piazza di Siena.
St Peter's Basilica is the largest Catholic church in the world, that hedge in a huge patrimony of art and beauty. There are more than three hundred churches in Rome, comprehending some older than St. Peter, like the Pantheon and some earlier, like Santa Maria Maggiore, wich host the highest bell tower of the city.
The Emperor's Terrace
On our 6th floor, the Emperors’ Terrace embrace a largest part of the city with a breath-taking view. We suggest to visit it during the sunset, or why not for a special occasion, arranging a romantic dinner.
