One of my greatest pleasures is to welcome you to Tampa Bay, a place I like to call the hidden gem of the State of Florida. We will be delighted to enhance your stay and encourage your many return visits.
InterContinental is perfectly located in the WestShore District and will enable your travels in the Greater Tampa Bay area to be easily accessed. We are just 30 minutes from the beaches of Clearwater or go downtown St. Petersburg where you can stroll the waterfront as you shop, dine or take in a baseball game. While in Tampa, join local residents at the adventure parks, museums or shopping malls or just relax at our hotel rooftop swimming pool or meet new friends at No Name Lounge.
After breakfast, pack your beach bag and drive west on Highway 60 toward Clearwater Beach, past the peaceful, glass-like waters of Old Tampa Bay. The white sandy beach is beautiful: take a brisk walk, then drive south on Gulf Boulevard past a string of beaches that have different personalities. Stop at John's Pass at Madeira Beach for some souvenir shopping, there are 100 or so specialty stores and wonderful restaurants in this quaint beachside village and pier.
Continue south, crossing the Pinellas Bayway, and stop at Fort De Soto Park for a little history and an abundance of sand and water. North Beach has been voted the best of America's top 10 beaches: take a swim (there are changing rooms) before exploring the fort, which was built in 1906. Drive on to St Petersburg and head for the Pier, where you can have a delicious Cuban lunch at Columbia Restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Salvador Dali' Museum, which has an amazing collection of the famous surrealist's works, including 96 oil paintings. Take a ride on the downtown trolley and stop at some of St Pete's museums and antique shops before you drive back to Tampa.
Fit in a one-hour massage before you go off for dinner at Donatello. Order the pompano and a good Italian white wine and you'll soon be ready for some dancing with Miss Kitty. Then move on to Blue Martini for drinks, an energetic crowd and more dancing.
Pack cool, comfortable clothing in natural fibers and some light wraps for the evenings. Lightweight clothing, bathing suits, sunscreen, sunglasses and hats are a must for outdoor activities.
Tampa Bay is comprised of three municipalities, Tampa - St. Petersburg - Clearwater, with the latter two at a distance of at least 20-30 minutes from the hotel. Travelling to each can become a challenge, but well worth it, so it is better to make sure that you have a plan for transportation before you arrive in Tampa Bay. Renting a car is the cheapest mode as well as almost a necessity in order to get the most out of your visit. Discount and third party car rental sites offer rates as low as $12 dollars per day with 24 hour rental locations being located only 3.5 miles away at Tampa International Airport. Taxi cabs are readily available and are suggested for those only travelling short distances from the hotel (up to 7 miles). Public busses are scarcely available so please plan for extra time if you choose this form of transportation. Please contact the Concierge Desk for more information on transportation outlets.
The average temperature in Tampa Bay is 73 degrees farenheit. During the summer season, May through September, temperatures fall in the 90s. This time period is also considered our rainy season with occasional thunderstorms on a daily basis. Don't worry, the rainfall normally only lasts for a short period of time before the sun takes over and beach life continues! Our cooler months, November through April, offer temperatures in the 70s with cooler nights in the 50's.

The Gulf of Mexico offers 35 miles of white-sand beaches on eight major barrier islands that are all just a short drive away.
Calm water conditions are the norm for the Gulf of Mexico. There is excellent year-round deep-sea fishing (join one of the many charters) but the area excels in equally good in-shore and near-shore fishing along the coasts of Tampa Bay.

Casual attire is usually appropriate throughout Tampa Bay. Most restaurants only require casual-business attire, although a few do suggest jackets for men and smart dress for ladies. Tip for the ladies: bring a light wrap or sweater with you for inside dining. When the temperatures are hot outside, restaurants and establishments tend to keep the inside very cool.
Shorts, sunscreen and sunglasses are a must if you're going to be outdoors.
InterContinental Tampa provides a courtesy shuttle between the hotel and airport daily; departing the hotel every 30 minutes, between 5:00AM and 1:00am the following morning. After claiming baggage, call from the kiosk at the base of the escalator. A direct dial connection to Guest Services will assist arriving guest to the appropriate airport waiting area and dispatch the shuttle for pick-up.
