Rocky Danov Halm, a 25-minute walk from the hotel, is just west of the Old Town and looms over its ancient streets and monuments. Nearby wooded Bunardzhika Hill is topped with "Aloshya", an 11-metre statue of a Soviet soldier that has survived from the Communist era.

A short distance further south you'll reach the rugged peaks of the Rhodope Mountains. Don't miss the hilltop ruins of Asen's Fortress, 30 minutes from the city by car. Take time to explore the shops and galleries of Kapana, a 20-minute walk from the hotel. This lively central district is the city's creative hub and home to many local artists. Browse along streets lined with art shops and studios, and stop for a drink at one of the countless trendy cafés and streetside bars. Time your visit right and you may catch one of the regular festivals and art events.

Get to grips with Plovdiv's 8,000 years of continuous history by exploring the central Old Town, 25 minutes on foot from the hotel. You'll find evidence from prehistoric days, as well as Roman mosaics, and Byzantine and medieval churches. One impressive sight is the well-preserved Ancient Theatre. Built in the days of the Roman Emperor Trajan, it has looked down over the Old Town for 1,900 years.
