Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 Great Stay
My husband and I spent a couple of nights at your hotel. We were very impressed from the moment that we arrived. Check in was quick and efficient. When making reservations, I had asked for a room above the 3rd floor and got one on the 5th floor. Room was clean, attractive and comfortable. Breakfasts were enjoyable and there was always plenty of room. Also enjoyed grabbing a cup of hot coffee on our way back to our room at the end of the day. Front desk was helpful and made arrangements for our scheduled tour for the next day. We had convenient pick up by the tour bus the following morning. After our day touring we took a free shuttle to the Visitors' Centre and there changed to board the shuttle that took us very close to the hotel. We could see the pool from our balcony door. Although we did not have enough time to use it, it looked like a good size with plenty of lounge chairs. We also ran into some folks who were there on business and appreciated the fitness center. Overall we were so impressed with our stay here and look forward to staying at a Holiday Inn Express again.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by handyman68 Think before booking this Holiday Inn Express!
Not all of Holiday Inn Express are like this one, thank Heavens. We have stay at almost all of the different brands of Holiday Inn's throughout the USA and Europe. Normally I do not do reviews but I think that people who are planning on visiting Charleston need to have a choice if they want to book into this Holiday Inn Express. We have been coming to Charleston for over 10 years and always stayed in walking distances. This time we didn't feel like paying the higher cost. WANT A MISTAKE. This hotel is don't close to walking distance to downtown.
The view was terrible, parking lot, garbage bin, McDonald's, run down building across from the park lot, where is the view of the river. The room was small, the bathroom had dirt in the corners, on the shower door seal, in between the tiles here and there were dark brown dirt or mold; (couldn't smell mold so it might be the beginning of mold). At least the toilet and sink were clean. The lighting in the bathroom is not bright. The very hard mattress, earsplitting loud ac unit and the noise from outside made two night sleep one of the worst. Almost ruin the trip. In the middle of the night would turn the ac unit off to have less noise.
The hotel staff that check us in you could tell that they weren't having a good shifted but they were still somewhat friendly. They were on the phone with a hotel guest that wasn't happy and want another room. This goes for all the Holiday Inn's when you check in when the phone rings they will answer it either they will put that person on hold or don't.
Any one that has been to Charleston knows the cost of parking and the hassles of driving downtown this Holiday Inn is not worth staying at.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by TaylorH Excellent Value
It must be noted that this hotel is not directly downtown Charleston. That being said, this is one of the best value hotels that you will find in Charleston. After spending twelve nights in this hotel, I felt it was extremely necessary to pass along the splendid job the hotel staff provided. This was honestly the most courteous and friendly hotel staff I have ever dealt with, from front desk to housekeeping. Keep in mind, this is not a 5-star hotel. However, in what it lacks in star rating it makes up for in value and the home feel. There is a free shuttle that picks up at the hotel parking lot and drops off downtown. Fresh coffee was available almost all throughout the day.
The first night I checked in I was greeted with a King Bedroom with no refrigerator or microwave... not what I was looking forward to for two weeks. However, Keenan at the front desk generously moved me to a room fitted with both, making the stay immediately better. My new room's safe was not working, to which maintenance repaired within five minutes of notification. Albertha from housekeeping did an outstanding job of cleaning my room daily and always having a smile on her face. I've stayed in many 4- and 5-star hotels, yet I have never been around a hotel staff so friendly in my life-- it was honestly shocking. Thank you for making my two week stay much more bearable.

Enjoyed the comfy beds and great breakfast. Location difficult to get to and the views were not great. Nothing within walking distance but the $10 flat fee cab ride to town was great!! Would probably stay again. Picky comment-toilets too low and I am only 5'5''.

I hate to spend a lot of money on a hotel room when I am going to be out and about all day. Though the stay was much less than staying at a hotel near the historic district you need to be aware of some of the hotel's challenges.
1. The room we stayed in had the following problems:
- window/door that wouldn't shut completely (see pic#
- broken ironing board #see pic#
- plug receptacle not screwed into the wall #see pic#
- mattresses that cause tremendous back aches
2. Though you can take a trolley to the historical district for free you may have some discomfort with the other local citizens using the trolley #we drove to the historic district the second day)

The hotel and grounds seem to be new, are very clean and neat, however, it is very difficult to get there, is not actually on the river (that we could see) and is a distance from the sights and activities that most tourists are coming to see.
