Nature lovers can head to Pitlochry Fish Ladder and Dam, a 30-minute drive from the hotel. When the dam was built across the River Tummel in 1951, a salmon ladder was constructed to make way for the 5,000 salmon that swim upstream each year. Come and watch salmon leap up the ladder's 34 pools. Peak season is between April and August, and entry to the viewing chamber is free.
Wander through one of the UK's oldest purpose-built museums, the Perth Museum and Art Gallery, just a 10-minute drive from the hotel. Beneath the building's glass dome, the region's creative, social and natural history is explored through unique exhibits. Get up close to ancient daggers, armour and manuscripts. Marvel at the Inuit polar bear carving and a sheep made out of glass. Entry is free.
Don't Go Home Without
No visit to Perth is complete without exploring Scone Palace, a stately home surrounded by more than 100 acres of tranquil grounds and manicured gardens. This sumptuous palace, 15 minutes' drive from the hotel, was once the site where Scottish kings were crowned. Get lost in the hedge maze, before taking a guided tour to explore the palace's portrait and French furniture collections.
With its riverside location and charming architecture, Perth city centre is a lovely place to explore on foot. Why not leave your car in the free hotel car park and take the bus to town instead? Several bus routes run from the stops just outside the hotel. Remember to pack your walking shoes, as there are plenty of scenic walking trails to explore in the Perth and Kinross region.
